IIRC, Odysseus was able to slay the Gorgon, whose visage turned men to stone, by using a mirror.
Odysseus used his shield which he had polished mirror bright to trick Medusa into looking into her own eyes while shielding his own.
In “The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao”, the traveling circus featured a Gorgon who if seen only in a mirror was harmless.
