It is common practice in Swiss schools that students shake their teachers hands at the beginning and end of each day. Two Muslim teen brothers created an uproar in April when they refused, citing their religion, to shake the hands of their female teachers.
At first, school officials attempted to reach a compromise with Amer Salhani and his older brother by allowing them to refuse to shake any teacher's hand be it male or female. However, this decision was met with huge backlash in Switzerland and the international community.
The decision to accommodate was eventually rescinded and now the school says it is within reason to require Swiss students to shake their teachers hands when requested. The regions education authority came to the conclusion that respect for equality between males and females outweighed that of the students religious accommodations.
Any disregard for the rule can be met with a possible monetary fine.
Amers older brother ultimately left, but Amer is still a student at the school in the small Swiss town of Therwil and he's reportedly still refusing to show respect to his female authorities by giving them a mere handshake.
These will, now.
They use the left hand (seriously); Muslim countries have no left-handed people. I guess they “correct” it (the way many others still do); the odd thing is that writing in English sucks for lefties but Arabic is tailored for them (the script goes right to left, IIRC).
Like Marxist Venezuela, there is a shortage of toilet paper in Iraq, etc.
When my son was stationed, first in Kuwait, and then operating in Iraq, we sent him rolls of toilet paper. I think he was the most popular guy in the company.
Right - eat
Left - wipe
Quite frankly, Muslim teens never had any appeal to begin with.
A handshake? I get hugs from my students.
Ban, remove, never let in again.
Mohammed was Charlie Manson without the humanity, only with more money and less musical talent. Except that Charlie Manson, as far as we know, never raped any children.
And to those who respond by saying "violence has been committed in the name of all religions through the centuries," I ask: "How many people did Jesus kill? How many slaves did Jesus own? How many women did Jesus rape?"
The Five Pillars of Islam:
Murder
Slavery
Rape
Torture
War
Sorry, liberals. There's only 1 interpretation of Islam Muhammad's
Will she be killed by a knife in the back, a kick to the kidney after rape and assault, or beheading and burning (after rape) by the Swiss Muslim?
Why would you want to shake their hand anyway? They might be carrying clock bombs.
Assimilate or get the hell out.
Switzerland, maybe the only country in Europe without it’s head completely up it’s wazoo.
OK this is the contrarian argument, I am uncomfortable with the state ordering people to do things they are uncomfortable with, from taxation to conscription there needs to be a damn good reason why the state should force you to do something you would ordinarily prefer not to.
So, in this case the handshake. Now the immediate question is the problem the kid has, is he disrespecting the teacher? If so then he needs to get a lesson in manners. I mean by that is he loafing with his hands in his pockets refusing to make eye contact?
However, as anyone who has been to a Muslim country will know, people are actually very respectful toward each other (OK with the exception of the head choppers and self-detonators, the ordinary run-of-the mill people) and particularly toward people who are senior to them, especially teachers.
In Muslim countries no student would ever shake his teacher’s hand, not because of gender issues but because that would imply they were equal to their teacher, which they most certainly are not.
So it is very simple tell the kid to respect his teacher in the way that he knows damn well how to do without offending his teacher. If the teacher is male he grasps the teacher’s hand, bows his head and presses the teacher’s hand to his forehead. If the teacher is female he presses his hands together in front of his chest, extended toward the teacher, bows his head and then touches his heart with his right hand.
He has displayed correct, and indeed subservient, deference to his teacher, she has received the proper respect due to her and no one could possibly object or imply the kid was insulting her.
If he can’t do that then kick his ass out of the class.
Islam is a war plan.
Why doesn’tnthe school simply kick them out. Who is in charge - the students or the administration?
True.
>>If I was a teacher there I would complain. Many of the invaders dont use toilet paper.

More importantly, if I were the parent of the student that followed the muslim student in line to shake the teacher’s hand, I would strongly object. My child will get the muslim bacteria off of the Swiss teacher’s now dirty hands!
Thank you for posting this, LG.
I personally dislike the practice of handshaking based solely on hygiene reasons. However, the Swiss people as a whole are more than likely a very CLEAN people.
Google “quorum sensing” to see an interesting behavior similar to this in another species.
