I still disagree on blaming doctors and society.

People need to be accountable for their own actions.

Too many people blame others for their own poor choices.

If you think people are just waking up in the morning and deciding “hey I think I’ll become addicted to opiates today”, you’re kidding yourself. They aren’t choosing that, they simply don’t realize until it is too late how dangerous these substances are.

If doctors were doing their job, people would be apprised of the dangers, but obviously, that isn’t happening.

Since when is following doctor’s orders something people should be held accountable for?

Here’s the situation if your back ever goes to needing meds daily:
The doctors will have prescribed you a drug the KNOW with absolute certainty is addictive and instructed you to take it daily, possibly even more than once a day
they also know that chronic use builds tolerance, now people like to think of drug tolerance as being able to take higher doses without dying what they ignore is that you also NEED to take higher doses to have any effect
they also know that eventually the dose you will need to have any effect will exceed legally allows them to prescribe, and that long before that days comes you will be an addict
and they also know there’s a non-addictive solution which they refuse to prescribe because only “bad people” want that

How is it your fault if you go down that path? You didn’t ask for chronic pain. You didn’t ask the doctor to prescribe the worst possible solution to your chronic pain. You’re just doing what you’re told by people with expert knowledge who took an oath specifically saying they wouldn’t do harm, an oath they are clearly violating by giving you that prescription.

Have you seen the commercials on TV for opioid constipation? They’re disturbing. Not because of the commercials, they’re no worse than any other commercial that involves poo. What’s disturbing is opioid constipation is mostly a problem for the addicted, it’s one of the reasons diarrhea is one of the withdrawal symptoms, most casual users (that’s you) don’t have the problem, worst case scenario they just wait until a day they don’t need their pain pill. This is a pill specifically for the side effects of having deliberately addicted people to painkillers. Think about it, there’s enough of those people out there to be an identifiable market demographic with products and advertising catered to their needs.

People do need to be held accountable. And that INCLUDES the doctors that are knowingly creating millions of addicts. And the society that thinks that’s OK all the way up until the people are addicted.
