Newborn babies are being kept in cardboard boxes due to Venezuela's healthcare crisis, an opposition party claims.

Heartbreaking images were posted online by Mesa de la Unidad Democratica today showing dozens of tiny infants lined up in makeshift cots. Each is wrapped in a blanket in half a cardboard box with their medical notes sellotaped to the front on a piece of paper.

Why isn’t Sean Penn down there helping his buddies out?
He thinks Venezuela is such a great country.

This is just horrific :-(

The poor sweet little darlings deserve better than this.

All the fault of socialism!

I know it’s awfull in Venezuela, but newborns don’t know a box from a bassinet. I don’t see the problem here.

I tend to agree with you. The babies look well cared for. And alive.

Many years ago, before today’s excesses, babies were often placed in open dresser drawers.

You’re right. Those babies look absolutely fine, and babies have been placed in dresser drawers, on a regular bed with pillows, heck! On the mothers back in a sling!

What is so heartbreaking?

I was gonna say drawers to a chest. My mom was one. Still here 78 years later. And no PTSD over the trauma. The babies look like they have pretty good duds on. As long as they are warm and fed, I don’t think it matters so much over their bed quarters at that age.

Certainly not! Those babies look fine. It will be many years before sleeping in a cardboard box evokes shame, if even then.

As for me, if all I had was a cardboard box, I’d still be grateful for the shelter.

The boxes, not sanitary. The babies that are OK are OK. The ones who suffer from various 3rd world maladies, including hospital infections, often can’t get medicine now so they are not OK, and not in sight. Many are dead.

I think we should be bombing the hell out of Venezuela.

Bombing it with food marked, “Courtesy of the USA”.

Not through the crooked Maduro govt, but by sheer airspace control and force, dropping pallets out of military transports.

Why Finnish babies sleep in cardboard boxes

For 75 years, Finland's expectant mothers have been given a box by the state. It's like a starter kit of clothes, sheets and toys that can even be used as a bed. And some say it helped Finland achieve one of the world's lowest infant mortality rates.

The boxes are not sanitary? Throw money at them?

Lol!

Put your money in a voluntary fund and be a do gooder. Leave my tax dollars out of it.

The Marxist elite class thought the people’s wealth was unlimited. Looks like they swallowed more than was available.

No.

Women are lining up to be stearlized in fear they can’t feed their babies.

I didn’t have an infant seat and my daughter rolled over very early. When I took her to the kitchen or living room with me, she was put in a laundry basket. I could put her on the table or couch, she couldn’t roll off and was up off the floor. She’s none the worse for wear.

Those babies look well-dressed (therefore warm). I don’t see a problem.
