RNC Chairman: Party could penalize former GOP candidates who don’t endorse Donald Trump
CBS News ^ | September 18, 2016, 12:05 PM | EMILY SCHULTHEIS

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that it’s high time for Donald Trump’s former primary challengers to come on board and support his campaign—and suggested there could be trouble for them in 2020 or 2024 if they don’t.

“Those people need to get on board,” he told CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “And if they’re thinking they’re going to run again someday, I think that we’re going to evaluate the process – of the nomination process and I don’t think it’s going to be that easy for them.”

Several of Trump’s former Republican primary opponents, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush have not endorsed Trump in the months since the GOP businessman secured the nomination. Asked explicitly whether that meant there would be penalties for the handful of 2016 Republican hopefuls who have not endorsed Trump if they opted to run again in 2020 or 2024, Priebus said nothing has been decided but that it’s something the party will “look at.”

All of the major Republican candidates, including Trump, signed a so-called “loyalty pledge” last summer stating that they would support the eventual Republican nominee “regardless of who it is.” The document wasn’t legally binding, but candidates were asked to sign it last summer after Trump at the time wouldn’t rule out a third-party bid if he lost the nomination.

Reince did a great job this morning. And he didn’t look strained or forced at all. He’s genuinely “in.”

Lindsey has not endorsed Trump? If not, he is swimming against the tide in SC.

Reince won’t get any money from Trump supporters if they know it’s going to the likes of Kasich, Cruz and other non-endorsers.

Reince has figured out that Trump is delivering the Big Tent that the GOPe has been harping about since Reagan left office.

A great shot across the bow to Cruz, Linda, Kasich and Jeb!

Which one of these will actually switch parties as a result? I would think Kasich and possibly Linda.

There are probably a few GOP candidates this cycle that have been given a message as well.

Go Trump!

-- Should have done this already, it's almost October. --

For all we know, he has. We don't know what sort of pressure he has applied out of the public eye. His remarks this morning were in response to a question.

And even if he hasn't, the dishonorable candidates have free will, and there is plenty of value in letting them show their asses. Trump's success doesn;t depend on them, thank goodness, and the party does need a good, thorough house cleaning.

House and more importantly, Senate cleaning.
Most of the GOP Senators are Cheap Labor Express stooges and Nevada is going to elect another one, Joe Heck.

Let them not endorse Trump AND face a primary challenge.

This isn’t going to be decided based on whom in the establishment endorses Trump.

Trump will have his hands full handling a completely inept GOP Congress, much less bother with those who don't honor "the good of the party oaths."

Trump will need to focus on the economy, illegal aliens, terrorism, just for starters.

Then there is renegotiating treaties, smacking down the UN and the EU, fumigating the State Department, the Department of Justice, the Pentagon, etc.

The NeverTrumpers are PLAYING WITH FIRE at this point.

At this point it could very well be career ending - especially if Trump turns out to be a good president.

I'd put folks like Michael Medved, Bill Kristol, George Will in that basket - if they aren't out of a job, at very least influence wise, they are no longer taken seriously or listened.

How often do you have to be wrong to get flushed from punditry.

But there will be a big turn over in personal this next year in punditville, the media and audience has changed.

Its no longer the new media, social media, msm its all just media now.

All of the various manners we have gained to get information in the last 25 years are firmly ensconced and accessed via the mobile devices for close to 10 years now.

Then means of publishing and distributing content is ridiculous cheap now so the barrier of entry is very low. That coupled with an incredible power multimedia computer in everyones pocket. I've got to think that we are in the middle of a major realignment on where and how political media is made and consumed, and this should drive audience to those who are the most accurate in both reporting and in prognostication

I doubt people realized when Twitter gave him an account they were handing him a nationwide mega phone.

Especially Kasich, Cruz, and Graham

Not to mention McCain and Flake....McCain thinks this election is all about him and mindless Flake is following his colleague.

All these Princes of Politics Listen UP....YOUR PARTY HAS ELECTED DONALD TRUMP AS THE MAN TO REPRESENT THE GOP IN THIS ELECTION.....THIS ELECTION IS NOT ABOUT YOU! IT IS ABOUT AMERICA, HER SURVIVAL FROM SOCIALISM....a short step from communism.

Priebus should call a press conference and call out each one INDIVIDUALLY as UNTRUSTWORTHY, UNETHICAL, LIARS.

If these bastards cannot uphold a simple campaign promise as simple as this, how can the be expected to act in Congress?

The document wasn’t legally binding, but

*******************

But..... it was by signing a vow or oath of the signee. So if they don’t honor their signature then
their word or oath isn’t of any value and should be pointed out when they run again.

These traitors, led by Bush and Cruz, withheld
water from Terry Schiavo, and who knows what
their fathers did to JFK with Oswald.

Their words mean only that they are lying.

Heard Reince Priebus on the radio the other day. He explained they do this EVERY YEAR, and it’s more than just a pledge to support the candidate—it’s a CONTRACT that binds both sides to certain actions.

The candidates (every year) must sign this to get support from the party—both financial and data (such as mailing lists).

Candidates such as Cruz and Kasich benefited materially by the use of the data provided the GOP. But, they aren’t keeping their part of the contract.

Cruz & Kasich are like the person who goes into a restaurant, orders a big meal, eats it, then refuses to pay for it. Literally thieves.

BTW, in relation to my last post. One of the options open to the GOP under this contract is to bar the person who broke the contract to run as a Republican—including being on the ballot in any primary.

Priebus seems to be the only one with grey matter. They’re all self-centered but he’s the only one actually concerned about his future.

Kasich and Graham can leave, then quickly be voted out.
