While I believe Obama’s action on this is illegal because it hasn’t been passed by Congress, there is some validity to having no fishing areas interspersed throughout heavily fished areas. This allows for safe, undisturbed breeding grounds for fish and other animals to prosper and multiply. The surplus population in these areas spills out into the fishing grounds. At the end of the day a 70x70 mile area is not all that big.

This is a policy that needs to be debated and decided upon in Congress and signed by the president into law as a comprehensive plan, not as a political stunt by a d-bag like Obama.

The Georges Bank was historically our most productive fishery in years past until over-fishing curtailed harvesting. Perhaps they’ve recovered sufficiently to allow more fishing there but with the current anti-American Muslim Marxist killing our fellow citizen’s jobs, I doubt it.

"While I believe Obama's action is illegal..."

Presidents have been designating national monuments since Congress passed the Antiquities Act and Teddy Roosevelt was the first prez to do so.

GW Bush was the first to designate a marine national monument, and he designated two of them. Earlier, Obama enlarged the marine national monument that Bush designated.
