Father Jeremy Lucas won an AR-15 at auction so he could have it destroyed.
The pastor from Lake Oswego who spent $3,000 on auction tickets in a successful attempt to win an automatic weapon so that he could have it destroyed, will be able to proceed as planned.
Reverend Jeremy Lucas from the Christ Church Episcopal Church in Lake Oswego was being investigated by the Oregon State Police for allegedly giving the gun to someone for safekeeping without having conducted a background check.
"The case was referred to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for review who advised OSP that they would not pursue criminal charges," State Police Spokesman Captain Bill Fugate said.
District Attorney John Foote said that despite the fact Reverend Lucas had said he had given the gun to someone to hold, that was not enough to bring charges.
"None of the witnesses nor documentary evidence obtained by Oregon State Police prove that an actual 'transfer' occurred," said Foote. "The suspects statement to the media that he gave it to someone for safe keeping is insufficient to prove that it did happen."
Lucas generated headlines when he won the weapon, announcing it would be destroyed.

With a wink and a nod law enforcement looks the other way and criminals go free to commit more crime.
Journalism does not exist anymore.
The Pastor DID NOT win and AUTOMATIC weapon.
If you are writing an article you should at least try to be accurate or truthful.
This man is getting paid too much if he can throw that much money away for a Lib stunt like this. In the immortal words of Jocelyn Elders, “What about the churdrun?”

Ignorant. But then, he’s just another ECUSA apostate rainbow church of the here and now lost soul. Who needed his 15 minutes of fame.
Could have given the money to charity or his church’s ministry.
Could have bought four AR15’s to destroy.
Could have used it to travel to gun shows to preach against evil weapons.
Just think how much good that 3k could gave, done in his community...what an asshole.
What a total dirtbag. $3000 of the parishioners’ money on this. He could’ve bought 3 (or more) at the local gun shop for that same money.
Better yet, put the money toward helping the needy.
These selective prosecutions are an affront to the law.
Dec-2012 NBC newsman David Gregory in a flagrant violation of Washington, D.C.s highly restrictive gun control laws, Gregory displayed a high-capacity magazine on the air. Although there was an outcry to have Gregory arrested, he was never taken into custody.
Mar-2013 Husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and anti-gun advocate Mark Kelly purchased as AR-15 at Diamondback Police Supply in Tucson, Arizona.
Only after he was discovered to be making an illegal straw purchase did he say he had always intended to give the gun to the police. So he committed two felonies: the straw purchase and perjury on the ATF Form 4473 that he was buying it for himself. None other than Vice President Joe Biden said the Department of Justice doesnt have time to prosecute those who lie on these forms.
June, 2016 Katie Courics Producers May Have Broken Federal Gun Laws. It turns out that Courics production team deliberately conspired to violate federal gun laws. According to video obtained by Ammoland, a shooting sports news website, one of Courics producers deliberately committed at least four separate felonies by purchasing four separate firearms across state lines without a background check.
June, 2016 CBS News Paula Reid purchased the rifle claiming that it was for her own use. But according to CBS, The rifle we purchased was legally transferred to a federally licensed firearms dealer and weapons instructor in Virginia, just hours after we bought it.
ATF has acknowledged that they received (the gun dealers) report, (which they could have been prosecuted for if they had failed to make it), but says it is not evident if a violation occurred (by the reporter)...
Really, no charges for handing off a class III weapon??? I’ll have to remember that when you find us the class III weapon auction to attend!

Better check the church books for a $3,000 gambling expense under “Other Expenses”!
Cripes sake! My parish Priest jumped into France with the 101st in WWII ,he was blessing every ones weapons. Where are men like that today ?
In the last fifty years anti-gunners have often obtained weapons by various means to “prove” how easy it is. They then turn over the guns to be destroyed.
The law gives “selective enforcement” in such cases, the “blind eye”. Even Sarah Brady did it and got away with it.
Now, if I had done it I would be making license plates for years!
Another damn fool outs himself.
Dear LOP,
If this were an automatic weapons, $3000 wouldn't begin to come close to what it would cost. At least 10x that much.
Secondly, given the background checks and licenses required, it wouldn't have been much of a raffle. Must people don't have the time, energy, or money it takes to go through all the hoops to get a class III license, and they would have to live in a state where a civilian is allowed to have one.
The least you could do would be to get the facts straight, but I realize that's an awful lot to ask of media these days.
