SEASIDE PARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police are investigating an explosion in Seaside Park at the site of a 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 a.m., happened on the route of the Third Annual 5K Semper Five race.
The Ocean County Sheriff's Department confirmed that no one has been injured and that there was no damage to the surrounding area. The investigation is still active.
Officials said participants in the run to benefit Marines and sailors had been scheduled to pass by the area around the time the blast occurred. But the start of the race was delayed after an unattended backpack was found in the area.
The delay prevented a large number of runners in the area.
Pictures from the scene show what appears to be a plastic garbage pail that was damaged. The immediate area was evacuated.
The Associated Press reported that a pipe bomb exploded in the garbage can. It's not clear when the boardwalk will reopen.
According to a statement on the Ocean County Prosecutor's Facebook page, "at this time the area is on lock down while bomb dogs search for additional devices. There is a report of at least one other device which the NJSP will make safe."
Garbage pails in the area were being checked and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Arson Unit, FBI, ATF and NJ State Police Bomb Squad are assisting.
The public is being urged to avoid the area.

MSM and the rest of us take little notice of these things until the pious Moslems get their timing and logistics better. That will come with experience.
It could also involve #BLM members for very obvious reasons. Some reports have said that there has been recruiting for jihadists at the #BLM protests. Looks like some may have completed their basic training.
No doubt it is the “ sudden destruction” that is ISLAMIC TERRORISM .

Thanks for posting this. I had the same thoughts. Decades ago, the Navy went to non Navy personnel to be Members of NICS.
That was to prevent a high ranking Navy scumbag officer or a scumbag civilian associated with the Navy from exerting pressure on the investigators to not really investigate a crime that might be embarrassing to them or put them in jail.
Now after close to 8 years under our Iman, Obama, that group may be like our FBI is now. Lets hope not.
