A leak has caused the closure of a crucial pipeline that carries gasoline to the eastern United States, a disruption that threatens to drive up prices and leave service stations without fuel to sell. A section of the Colonial Pipeline, which runs from Houston to New York, has been closed since Sept. 9 after a spill of roughly 250,000 gallons was discovered in rural Shelby County, Ala. The major pipeline, one pipe of which has been severed, provides gasoline for an estimated 50 million people on the East Coast each day, according to company estimates. The cause of the leak has yet to be determined, according to the company's most recent statement. The pipeline's operator has said full service will not be restored until at least next week.

Now would be a good time for President Obama to step in and STOP THE REPAIR, in an effort to Save the Planet.
Stop the pipeline!/s
They had to lose a quarter of a million gallons to know it needed repair?
A little flame and there will be a bigger problem.
A whole week....they can loop it and put it on line almost immediately. Not like there’s no valves for miles.
I blame Bama and Auburn grads for this problem. The folks who live near Athens,Georgia would not have allowed this situation to happen.

True, but there will be people panicking. Gotta get to the grocery store to get milk. How many are prepared for even 3 days?
The average daily volume of gasoline going through the Colonial Pipeline is 100,000,000 gallons - about 69,400 gallons a minute. The area where the leak is, is fairly remote and the pipeline is buried.
And with gas lines, the Obama / Carter parallels will be complete.
Carter said natural gas was so rare and valuable, it should not be used to make electricity.
So they built coal plants.
Now they do not like coal.
Sit in the dark and wait for unicorn milk.
“Gotta get to the grocery store to get milk”
Don’t forget the TP, eggs and bread! Heh.
This line "broke" a week ago and the word is just getting out?
They said the line was “severed”??
Hussein will see that we all get a price increase in gas and heating fuel..
As soon as they see a pressure drop the pumping stations shut down.
It’s a 36”(?) diameter line, about 50 gallons per foot.
Around 20,000 gallons/minute
Not too many valves outside of the pumping stations.
I suspect, in today’s world they inflate the loss numbers to cover everything and more.
Quick shut off, considering the amount that goes through the pipeline.
Sooooooo, how was it severed?
How does a buried pipeline get severed?
Probably somebody from the EPA goes out there and breaks it.

In this day and age there is no excuse to loose anywhere near this volume before shutting down. No doubt they have flow meters at both ends and a computer can compare the two readings instantly. They should have electronic valves every so often so that they can even trap most of the fuel in the pipeline.
Wonder if the FBI is involved to investigate the pipeline “break”?
