Yes; old Brat memories.
Suggest a visit to Japan Guide sometime. You might find some chums from that era. Click on forum, then type in “PX.”
There was a ship named General M.M. Patrick, nicknamed the Mickey Mouse. I believe this ship somehow split in half at anchor in California or Washington State but was raised, welded back together and continued in service.
I went to 1st or 2nd grade in Sagami, then 3rd and 4th at Nasugbu (in the Yo-Hi building.) Then two years at YIS, then back to 6th at Nile C. Kinnick (Yo-Hi renamed by the Navy.)

Everything you say is very sad for Mexico.

Obviously their people work hard. And the country is rich in natural resources. The fact that they are not doing better by managing their situation internally is tragic.

Corruption spoils all.

I recently bought the Ed Hume comics “Babysan’s World”, which I read in the Far East PX but never bought. His depictions of young Japanese women in the postwar occupation would have feminists screaming.

The MSTS ships were actually part of the Navy but were piloted by American civilian skippers.

I left the Navy in 65, they flew me fro Clark Field in the Philippines. I guess that was the new version of MSTS. Got back to Treasure Island before I left.

1 Mexican Peso equals
0.052 US Dollar.
Same as it was in 1972, IIRC................

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

About the same time my b-I-l was using Mexican pesos instead of quarters in U.S. pay phones.

Have you ever visited there?

If you take a second or two to peek at my profile you'll see that I've done some traveling...including travel to the Third World. But I draw the line at banana republics.Always have...always will.

But who knows....we may have different preferences with ice cream flavors as well! ;-)
