Let's #VerifyThis! Do we need a bigger border wall?
WFAA.COM ^ | 14 SEPTEMBER 2016 | DAVID SCHECHTER

The United States and Mexico share a border that's 2,000 miles long. But only one-third of it is covered by a wall, costing $2.4 billion dollars. Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants to finish that wall.

"I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words," Trump said when officially announcing his candidacy.

We wanted to know how well the wall we have now works?

And because you hear a lot about the big, bad liberal media, reporter David Schechter is taking along someone who will likely vote for Trump.

Any wall of, say 10 feet, is probably sufficient. Maybe it won’t keep Jose out, but it’ll keep his wife Marie and their 17 kids out of the country. That’s a huge plus right there.

There is no way the border doesn’t need to be well patrolled. A fence/wall just helps to increase the coefficient of friction.

A ten feet, they’ll have a rope and a ladder over that wall in less than five seconds.

Trump has been talking lately about a 35 foot wall.

About time...

Wall of course is a euphimism for an effective security barrier. Prison grade chain link with razorwire, electrified in problem areas, with earthworks to prevent approach, lights, cameras, seismic sensors, and armed patrols could work. Real bullets and orders to shoot would help immensely also.

share a border that's 2,000 miles long...

Or roughly 12.5 times the length of the DMZ that separates North and South Korea. A big undertaking, but doable.

There is no need for a wall. There is a need for the existing law to be enforced. If the boarder patrol cannot deal with the problem, one solution might be a wall.
Until the bampster is willing to enforce the law, NOTHING will stop the ingress.

A wall...

Gov Rick Perry said during the 2008 election cycle that “if you build a 30 foot wall you’re going to have a run on 31 foot ladders”

You’ve seen the pictures of wall climbers, car jacks being used to create a space under the wall etc...

Yes it will limit the numbers... but so will razor wire, troops, patrols, E-LINT sensors etc... (which will also employ lots of people).

So I’m torn, I see building a wall as a great expense that will be compromised sporadically, painted on continuously, and as breeding a false sense of security, because at some point this wall will be taken for granted and at that point it fails.

All we have to do is patrol the whole border, with orders to shoot on sight. After a few immigrant chains get shot up, that’ll be that.

A real barrier—paid for by the country that makes it necessary—with no holes (if it is a border wall, how is it isolating American schools farmers, etc.?) patrolled by enough BP supported by our govt, with sensors—these also paid for by Mexico ... problem solved.

Remember Pat Buchanan’s proposal for an electrified barbed-wire fence backed up by a moat? Maybe that’s in addition to Trump’s Wall.

But we should triple the size of ICE and the Border Patrol and give them better ROE, then supplement them with drones.

Then institute jail time for hiring illegals (fines just get passed along to the consumer) and cut off ALL benefits to illegals.

Unfortunately, we do. A wall works for Israel. We were able to build high blast walls, with T-walls and razor wire around Baghdad’s green zone—under fire. But the same people who did that now insist it can’t be done here

And since Trump says Mexico is footing the bill (”Mark my words.”) we may as well build barracks up against the wall for BP agents, like BOQs with electronic monitoring equip, sleeping racks, weight rooms, TVs, etc.

About 60% of that 2000 mile border is river. The Rio Grande goes 1200 miles along the Texas border. I have yet to see any plans for that.

Trump should negotiate a deal with the president of Mexico to have American corporations construct the wall he has proposed to build on his country’s southern border.

And because of the condescending way it talks down to me in the first part I am not going to bother to read any further.

I will simply say they might want to check with the countries that have walls and how well they have worked.

India's first wall worked so well they are building a second.

Hungary's wall is working so well all their neighbors are now clamoring for one.

South Korea's wall has kept the Norks from invading for 50 years.

Israel's wall work and a marked decline in terror attacks.

So where have walls not worked? Well, frankly, no where.

I think Americans have a mental block when it comes to walls because they have never needed them around their property to keep the bad guys out.

The world has changed. The water no longer works as a barrier. You need a wall.
