The Clinton campaign is so desperate to associate the Trump campaign with white supremacists at the very fringes of the Alt-Right that it published a blog post on its website dedicated entirely to attacking a harmless internet meme Pepe the frog and allowed itself to be fooled by a fake twitter account in the process.
The helpful explainer by one Elizabeth Chan is titled, Donald Trump, Pepe the frog, and white supremacists and warns that the cartoon frog is more sinister than you might realize.
Chan asserts that the white supremacists decided to take back Pepe by adding swastikas and other symbols of anti-Semitism and white supremacy.
The only problem with her stunningly insightful analysis is that her evidence rests on an old Daily Beast article which was based entirely around an interview with the manager of a satirical troll Twitter account.
We basically mixed Pepe in with Nazi propaganda, etc. We built that association, one prominent white supremacist told The Daily Beast, Chan writes.
The prominent white supremacist was the owner of the Jared Taylor Swift Twitter account, and his very online identity should have been enough to clue the geniuses at the Daily Beast and the Clinton campaign to the fact that its a fake troll account.

If you are a white supremacist. You would not name your mascot, Pepe.
Her Royal Heinous’s people need to be kept away from dangerous adult zones such as the Internet.
Why would white supremacist pick a Green frog with a Spanish/ Mexican name? (Pepe)
A LOT of the memes seen here at FR are first made by the alt-right people over at 4chan.og
Then you click on “politically incorrect” —that’s a subgroup.
It’s pretty chaotic and obscene but in fact very many MAJOR stories start over there, then hit Drudge, etc.
That was the very first thing I thought when I heard of this "Pepe the Frog" thing.
Pepe is originally PP, Patria Presumptive, or something.
It was the original Spanish name for Joseph, father (sort of) of Christ.
Pepe is JOSEPH.
Why would white supremacists take on a green frog with a Spanish name as a mascot?
Critical thinking skills like that are forbidden!!
There is a black version of Pepe. I’ve seen the Asian Pepe also. I’ve never seen a Nazi Pepe, though.
Elizabeth ‘Chan’??? LMAO!
They are responsible for the biggest trolls in a decade.
The same Alt-righters that meme Pepe have elevated Harambe, the late silverback gorilla, to meme demigod status. Next Hillary will tell us gorillas are symbols of white supremacy.
Reached for comment today, a staffmember of
the Clinton campaign stated that although
hILLary has been under the weather, she is
still strong and up to the duties of the
presidency.
This photo from last Thursday was provided
to the press as proof there is nothing to
worry about.
They wound up by saing, "She's a real trooper!"
To clarify some things.
Pepe, and many iterations thereof, are memes created by the anarchic website 4chan, where all posters are anonymous, and in fact this anonymity gave rise to the group Anonymous.
Anonymous has pulled off some amazing Internet pranks, their major motivation being to “do it for the LOL’s” (Laughing Out Loud). However, they can also be very, very savage.
Those they take against are people like pedophiles, child and animal abusers, those who threaten them, and those who try to use their anonymity to carry out crimes. In such cases, Anonymous has proven to be very competent detectives, locating such people and turning them over to the authorities.
However, some of their pranks have led to dubious people, even governments, trying to *pretend* to represent Anonymous, to carry out evil deeds and espionage.
To be suckered by a common 4chan meme is just embarrassing.
And the phrase ‘alt-right’ was invented by Milo last March.
Lordy. They’re falling right into our hands.
Flawless victory.
So now it’s white supremacists who make up the alt-right?
They just keep making things up, trying to find something — ANYTHING — that sticks.
