Super Typhoon Meranti will batter Taiwan with flooding rain, damaging winds, mudslides and dangerous storm surge before making landfall on eastern China. Meranti reached super typhoon status on Monday afternoon local time and currently has sustained winds of 305 km/h (190 mph), equivalent to a powerful Category 5 hurricane. A super typhoon is classified when sustained wind speeds hit at least 240 km/h (150 mph). Meranti is the strongest typhoon in the Western Pacific since Super Typhoon Haiyan in November of 2013, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the world. Haiyan, also known as Yolanda in some countries, was the deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines in recorded history. More than 6,000 people were killed.
My God
Strongest storm since 2013! Massive globull warming.
Children running away from parents!
It formed over the Marianas I think that is why it rained all last week
This sounds a little nasty....
It missed most of the Philippines but we are getting heavy rain...and this is not good since the rice is almost ready to harvest.
no floods yet, however.
Not a drop of rain here in Davao City.
190 winds? OMG!
That’s what we had in Morgan City, LA when Andrew came thru in 1992.
Sure would be a shame if it wiped out China’s artificial islands by eroding all that freshly built up sand.
It’s just plain awesome how we have so many FReepers in the P.I.
Please stay safe, all!
