Facebook and Twitter have joined a network of over 30 news and technology companies to tackle fake news and improve the quality of information on social media, the group said on Tuesday.
First Draft Coalition, formed in June 2015 with the backing of Alphabets Google GOOG -1.21% , said it would create a voluntary code of practice, promote news literacy among social media users, and launch a platform where members can verify questionable news stories.
The platform will be launched by the end of October, Jenni Sargent, managing director of the coalition, said in an email.

Do you want Facebook and Google et al along with the WhiteHouse determining acceptable sites?
Because if you do, FR and Drudge could be a thing of the past.
They want to become the GATEKEEPER of what is “news” again.
I don’t want the government to censor news nor do I want people with an agenda censoring the news.
Allow individuals to decide for themselves.
The real problem is going to be used to give the left more control. This doesn’t mean that those on the right should not fight fake news sites.
