WASHINGTON Republican vice presidential pick Mike Pence returned to his old Capitol Hill stomping grounds on Tuesday to court a longtime Donald Trump nemesis and address lingering concerns over the GOP nominees standing with minorities and women.
A former House lawmaker from Indiana, Mr. Pence had a lot of ground to cover. In his various meetings behind closed doors, Mr. Pence told stories about Mr. Trumps penchant for prayer, and offered up a perspective of Mr. Trump that cast some of the candidates most ambitious goals, such as winning a majority of the African-American vote, as refreshing optimism.
Hes basically vouching for Donald Trump, said Rep. Peter King (R., N.Y.)
Mr. Pence sat down with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who lost the Republican presidential nomination to Mr. Trump but whose endorsement could help boost the Republican nominees standing with conservatives. Mr. Cruz was famously booed at the partys convention in July after he declined to endorse Mr. Trump.
Mr. Cruz didnt respond to questions about whether he was any closer to endorsing his former rival. But he did lend a hand to the Republican nominee by echoing his attacks of Democratic nominee Hillary Clintons recent description of some Trump supporters as a basket of deplorables. Mr. Cruz said: That level of contempt from a candidate for the people is really disappointing. Its a level of condescension.
Of the meeting with Mr. Pence, Mr. Cruz said: It was a very very good meeting. Mike Pence is a good man. Hes a friend. Hes a strong conservative. I was grateful for his strong leadership and his strong support. We had a good and productive conversation.

If Cruz does come on board that puts more pressure on the Never Trumpers. Next Kasich and the entire Never Trumpers implode.
You are half right. He did self-distruct. He is never going to be a viable candidate for the Presidency.
But he is not irrlevant.
Trump didn't send Pence out there for the fresh air. He sent him back to Washington, at least in part, to get a Cruz endorsement. And a full-hearted Cruz endorsement would be welcomed by Trump and a lot of conservative Republicans.
Hopefully Cruz will come to his senses. (See my tagline.)
Indeed! If Pence can help broker a deal, Trump and Cruz will both be better for it.
We’ll see.
If this helps us win, I am all for it. Everything else at this time is irrelevant.
If Trump was up 10 points this meeting wouldn’t be necessary. Trump is showing he wants to win. I think that Cruz also wants this behind him. Pense is doing what good Vice President are suppose to do. Kick ass and make deals behind the scenes.
I agree with you.
It’s been whispered here in DC for years that Cruz was a self-centered brat and that turned out to be true.
BUT the guy has a major brain. If Trump/Pence can temper that yuge Cruz ego, Cruz could be a valuable ally. (Big If)
We don’t need or want him. Get lost, Cruz.
Yesssss!
James 4:17 KJV “Therefore, whatsoever a man knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
Next Kasich get him on board. If he can deliver Ohio why not have Pence sit down with him. Also that puts unexpected pressure on Hillary.
“Sounds like Pence was offering Cruz an olive leaf from Trump. “
More like a fig leaf, I think. If this is real, then Cruz is already inclined to endorse, but needs what he considers a face-saving excuse to do so.
Well, that’s what I’ve always heard but Cruzzzzzzz?......sigh
My political advice to Sen. Cruz:
Make a short and sweet announcement, that you are supporting Trump for President.
State you made a mistake at the convention, were still upset over the primaries, but now see the big picture, and want what is best for the country.
He would redeem his future in 25 words or less. Knowing him, it will be more words, but you get the idea.
Hey Ted Cruz, I hear the Democrat Party has a new opening.
He is never going to be a eligible candidate for the Presidency
++++
You are probably correct. But since the courts don’t agree it’s a non issue. Cruz ruined his reputation. He is never going to be a President.
Hahaha
Let Cruz fry in his own oil.
“If anyone at this point is still a nevertrumper, they can not be trusted.”
My sentiments exactly. They’re either closet Democrats/Globalists or Teddy Cruz brainwashed drones. No difference between the two as far as I’m concerned.
Who’s next on his list, Cheeto Head???
