For much of the summer, Hillary Clinton deliberately kept a low public profile, fund-raising in private and pursuing a hands-off campaign strategy: If Donald J. Trump wanted to seize center stage by picking unpopular fights — with a Gold Star father, a federal judge, the leaders of his own party — she would not stand in his way.
Now, sidelined with pneumonia just as she hoped to reintroduce herself with a series of more personal policy speeches, Mrs. Clinton has left herself uniquely vulnerable to an unplanned absence.
Her dismal public standing on questions of candor, combined with decades of conspiracy theories about her health, had already produced an uncommon challenge for aides and supporters seeking to tamp down speculation about her physical condition.
More substantively, among Democrats worried that Mrs. Clinton has failed to make a more forceful case for her candidacy since the party’s convention, her illness has reinforced the danger of a Trump-centric strategy — leaving the Clinton side without a memorable affirmative message to hammer home, especially when its chief messenger is on the mend.
The focus on Mr. Trump has done little to remedy Mrs. Clinton’s trust deficit with voters. And despite volumes of policy proposals, even Clinton supporters often strain to identify cohesive themes, independent of Mr. Trump, in her campaign.
Aides said last week that she planned to deliver several speeches aimed at connecting her personal motivations to her political agenda. The second in the series, slated for Tuesday, was postponed after she fell ill.
“They’ve clearly framed the race as a referendum on Donald Trump,” said Steve McMahon, a longtime Democratic strategist. “That does create a vacuum and a greater level of interest in things like this that, frankly, probably have no special significance.”

Exactly. You have to wonder how many times she's suffered from coughing fits, or how many times she collapsed, in private, away from the cameras and the microphones.
The NYT spins this as if Hillary is a poor unfortunate victim of ...her own dishonesty (er, “lack of candor”) and bad campaign decisions. Massive dishonesty and having nothing positive to offer are just so inopportune when facts sneak in. The NYT ought to know.

I'm sure the media will just blow it off as "Hillary sat on a spilled a box of Raisinets".
As much as I despise her, I wish her a speedy recovery.
When a left of liberal rag such as the NY Times even needs to acknowledge that Hillary has a ‘health’ issue, it’s a very sad day indeed. And hil(l)ar(y)ious as well.

If she has pneumonia, originally referred to as highly contagious bacterial pneumonia, she transmitted it to a child she touched at the 9/11 observance, then went home to Chelsea’s and imperiled her two grandchildren. After Chelsea’s, she was on the street saying she was just fine. When/where did she go to get “diagnosed?” Chelsea’s secret medical facility in her apartment.
Everything about this woman is smoke and mirrors. NYT perpetuates the pneumonia meme. WSJ shifts he talk to health problems of elderly candidates, and Trump is older, so let’s focus on him. Social media limits search options. What idiots can fall for this anymore?
NYT should just come out and say that Hillary is “pining for the fjords”.
NYT is trying to pretend things will get back to normal.
They won’t. Its amusing to see them twist themselves into pretzels trying to revive Hillary.
That doesn’t even work in Hollywood.
I also wish her a speedy recovery. She needs to get back on the campaign trail.

Having transient, convenient, and selective amnesia allows for a false plausible deniability and has apparently become an endearing quality to her supporters. She just claims not to remember, blames her memory loss on the 2012 concussion, insists that people accept that as an excuse, it then turns it into a false apology, and it's all GOOD. See how this works?
There has to be more to the story.
Can anyone help out filling in the tick-tock on the following time line? Where was Huma? Did Huma take medical leave? Is there a flight log as to what kind of aircraft the State Department assigned to her in this time frame? Did the State Department either damage a C-12 Huron or is there one missing from the inventory? Did she start negotiating with Iran on the nuke deal in this time frame? Will Assange have more "personal" emails in the Dec 2012-Feb 2013 time frame which may reveal more?
Regarding the "fall", there are conflicting reports. Some say it "happened at home". Which home? Was there an ambulance call? Some say the fall hapened in her 17th-floor office at the State Department. Was there an ambulance call? So which is it? At one of her homes, or in her office?
