ofc teams can fire players, they just drop them from the 53-man roster.

They may still be stuck with paying them, though, heh heh.

But teams should take a stand and make it clear that they will get rid of players at the first opportunity if they disrespect our flag and anthem.

In the short term, a simple team rule that you may not enter the field pre-game if you are unwilling to stand for the anthem and flag. Players like Kaeperdick can remain in the locker room until the moments before kickoff. That would sure take the wind out of their sails, since no one would notice their stupid protest.....

That sure would. Why protest if there's no one to watch?
That SHOWS how shallow is their bogus protest. If they REALLY hated this country they would leave.
Hey, I'd pay their one-way ticket to Africa, Asia or any country south of our border. We would be INFINITELY better off without him or any of his ilk.
