Yes. I read this earlier, and what struck me is that it took a huge number of words to say practically nothing.

I’m not persuaded that Rush is a real convert.

The Rush I remember kept it pithy. He went through a “stack of stuff” instead of endlessly milking some obscure article with a labored metaphor.

He is trying to save his skin and not offend his friends who are all nevertrump. He wants it both ways.

Rush may not be a “convert” to the very real objectives of “Trumpism”, but he is no fool, or at least not a complete fool.

The Donald is no conservative, that much was clear from the start, and he has no dedication to the pure motives that are so often ballyhooed by its highest priests. But he is good at practical matters, and he is willing to take the structure of what the nation is, right now, and remold it into something just a little more accommodating to the spirit within every human to be somehow free and able to exercise that free will. You may be sure that at no time would Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, ever have any such motives or ambitions, as Herself is determined to fulfill the agenda already set, apparently in stone, that is the handiwork of George Soros.

Given the binary choice we now face, even the most intellectual of conservatives has to ask himself (or herself), what would be the socially redeeming qualities that The Donald have to adopt to please them, that are even possible, given the social background of much of that territory once known as “the United States of America”?

We cannot wave a wand and suddenly have well-informed citizens in the overwhelming majority, and thus have all the idealistic programs of the intellectual conservatives adopted. It will have to be one small rollback after another, over perhaps decades, to achieve that more balanced public consisting of people who enjoy and are determined to live up to the “American spirit”.
