The question arises: What’s the protocol for elections if one candidate’s lease on life expires before the vote?

Obama said he’ll call the election off and stay on until they organize a new one ,but on 20Jan17 if there’s no President then Paul Ryan will be King

The national committee of that party would change the ticket and would send registered letters to the electors pledged to that ticket that there had been a change. This could be done all the way until December 19, the day that the Electoral College votes.

We have precedent for that. In 1872, the Democratic candidate for president died shortly after the November election. The Democratic National Committee notified Democratic electors by mail, and they voted for the new ticket in December. It was nothing more than a formality because Grant and the Republicans had won in a landslide.

If it’s hillary we’re talking about, they’d call the taxidermist and keep campaigning. Who’d notice the difference?

See post #10.

It is correct. Too much FReeper disinformation about this subject based on reading blogs by ignoramuses.
