CHICAGO (AP) — An earthquake has rattled a swath of the Great Plains from Nebraska to North Texas.

The United States Geological Survey said that a 5.6 magnitude earthquake happened at 7:02 a.m. Saturday in north-central Oklahoma. It also tweeted that aftershocks may occur.

People in Kansas City, Missouri; Fayetteville, Arkansas; Des Moines, Iowa; and Norman, Oklahoma, all reported feeling the earthquake. Dallas TV station WFAA tweeted that the quake shook their studios, too.

Saturday’s quake was centered about 9 miles northwest of Pawnee, Oklahoma. Earlier this week, the same spot, which is about 70 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, saw a magnitude 3.2 temblor.

I’m sure all of those quakes going back to 1867 were caused by fracking!

We felt the 5.4 Pawnee quake here in midtown Tulsa. Pretty strong rumbling and shaking for what seemed like a minute or two.

Was still in bed, but felt a brief (2-3 seconds) light shift in NW Arkansas about that time. I live in a one-story apartment with carpet on a concrete floor.

A couple of years ago, this area had a fair tremble that lasted several seconds.

http://earthquaketrack.com/quakes/2016-09-03-12-02-44-utc-5-6-6 reports a 5.6 near Pawnee, OK at about 7:02 am CT.

Lol! I guess that’s a fairly common occurrence for them.

I am surprised they haven’t found a way to blame it on global warming.

Yes, of course it's because of GoreBull warming! Don't you know things expand when they get hot?? That is what is happening to the ground there. :)

I have felt quite a few earthquakes here in central OK, but this one was different. The prior ones were quick and jerky. This one, on the other hand, started out slow and then built up to a peak and then slowly subsided. Lasted for about 15 seconds best guess.

It woke me up here, east of Kansas City. I was going to go yell at the kids to stop messing around before they woke up the baby! Ha! An earthquake shakes the house for the first time ever and I blame the kids.

Between 1975 and 2008, only an average of two earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or greater would occur each year in Oklahoma.

That's quite a few at least compared to Michigan. Who's to say that this fault line didn't become more active?

Felt a gentle rocking motion...

Was at a rest stop on I-40 near Amarillo & thought it was a wind gust rocking the car.
