Recycling metals makes sense, especially aluminum. The smelting process for it is *very* energy intensive.

Glass? Less so, but still sensible.

Everything else? Useless feel-goodism. Waste of time. Most of it winds up in a landfill, anyway.

Here in New Mexico, we are not allowed to recycle glass. Can't go in the bin. Too expensive to deal with.

Metals, paper/cardboard (nothing with grease on it) and plastics. That's it.

Back in the 1950s, when the Earth was young, we used to have paper drives. We’d set up a huge bin (this was before dumpsters) and ask everyone to deposit their old newspapers. The newspapers were then sold—I thought to paper mills, for use in the production of paper.

I’m pretty sure they weren’t losing money on the deal.
