And why would that be? There are still choices unless all but one candidate shuffles off this mortal coil. There’s nothing in the Constitution that requires any one political party has to have a candidate available under such circumstances. The write-in vote is always available.

Actually, not. In some states, write-ins are not allowed or counted in general elections. .
