I don’t get pushing Thune for POTUS or VPOTUS. Is it just cause he’s “good looking”? He’s a typical establishment Republican from a tiny state. Makes no sense. Am I missing something?

That’s about the size of it. Pretty boys get us nowhere (hello, Scott Brown).

America loves incumbents. Plus of course the campaign finance laws make things more difficult for challengers, it’s harder for them to get money and harder for them to get their message out without that money. Congress has a rate of return of over 90%, in the end Americans prefer the bad penny they know than the penny that might not be bad but they don’t know it.

Unless Douglas or Dubie had ran I can’t imagine we’d have a better candidate than the guy who was almost elected Governor.

"Perhaps somebody from Arizona could fill us in on why?
Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson."

Too true. I have a relative in one city in the "Indian regions" of Central and Northern AZ who ran for office. He registered and ran as a Dem, even though he is a pretty conservative guy. Why?
Because the vast majority of reservation voters have been trained to vote for the guy with a "D" after the name.
As simple as that.

And yes, he won.

Add the student populations of Tucson and Phoenix and the unreal attack ads of McPantStain and you have a winner. He may still have an "R" but he's proven himself to the "D" voters.

Six folksy work. All for Ward. Only I voted. One actually said to me “I only vote in presidential elections”. Musta been dropped on his head when he was a kid. I don’t think they know how to vote. Plus, I don’t trust the Az mail in voting system.

That’s true. Americans may not even vote out their congressmember or Senator in 2018, when the midterm elections always see “Vote out the Bum” voters.

2018 is likely to be a bad year for Democrats, regardless of whether Clinton or Trump wins.

Some voters are just jaded.

Thune, youngish and well-spoken. GOP is desperate ... so in that context he is VP material
