I agree. Bad idea. They will use this to cast doubt on his immigration policy. Plus, it’s Mexico. I’d actually worry for his safety. If anything, schedule the meeting for after his speech and send a plane for the Mexican president if he can’t fly up here himself.

Trump will explain what he’s going to do when elected and let the Mexican leader start getting things ready for the influx of their own people....

All Trump has to do is say, we had a really nice conversation. We both shared Idea and I look forward to talking more. People want to see him solidify his reasonableness. He still can adhere to the policies he has announced... all he needs is the appearance that he can have heads of state conversations. And He wins.
As could a bad photo-op. A smiling best buddies handshaking photo will look like the fix is in. An angry Mexican president treating Trump like an idiot will look very bad. Trump can't control the situation - it's too high risk with little reward. It's in Mexico's best interest to keep things as they are so I wouldn't expect a positive reception.
