Notice that Tropical Depression Nine became Hermine, not Eight, as Nine strengthened to that point first. (I'm not going to check right now, but the forecasts from a few days ago probably suggested the reverse order.) If Tropical Depression Eight strengthens as currently forecast, it will become Ian.
