Authorities say a man took his own life at an eastern Ohio courthouse moments after he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

His wrists and ankles should have been cuffed and chained.
Someone didn’t do their job correctly and will be evaluated.
That aside, I’m sure it was traumatic for the guards to see this happening. They may need time off of work. Maybe this is one of those towns that doesn’t see a lot of violent crime.

In this case either way, he escaped and that was likely his goal thinking it was a better alternative. Happens a lot.

There was a fellow I knew in college that did exactly that. Probably would have lived except that he dove head first into an iron drainage grate and crushed his skull.
