I actually worked as a contractor at one of DHS/ICE’s amnesty factories. We would review the immigration and criminal records of aliens in county jails, making recommendations for deportation action, ie whether or not ICE should send a “detainer” request to the county jail.
We operated under Obama regime ICE rules, not US law, so very few arrestees met the threshold for a detainer. Multiple theft convictions? No problem. Arrested but not yet convicted of rape? Not a problem yet.
Even when a detainer was sent, some jurisdictions, such as most California counties, would just ignore the requests.
A horrible place to work for anyone with a shred of patriotism. I eventually quit.
Criminal illegal aliens are those who have been convicted in US courts of crimes in the US.
Today they are released back in to the US.
They are supposed to be deported.
Trump would just be carrying out the laws.

It has been revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “grossly misrepresented” the number of crimes committed by criminal aliens it released from custody, according to a new report by the Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
Through a request under the Freedom of Information Act, FAIR looked at fiscal year 2014 and discovered that out of the 30,558 criminal aliens released (not deported), ICE reported that only 1,423 of them were convicted of crimes when in fact it was nearly 10 times that number. In reality, there were 13,288 convictions among the criminal aliens ICE released back on the streets of America.
FAIR states that number is likely larger when criminal charges alone are considered: “It is important to note that not all criminal charges result in convictions. Thus, the number of offenses committed by criminal aliens ICE turned loose is likely significantly greater.”
The report also notes that the number of criminal aliens deported has plummeted in recent years, even though the funding is there to increase deportations.
“As a result of Obama administration policies that place protection of illegal aliens—including criminals—over the safety of the American public, thousands of people have been needlessly victimized,” FAIR’s President Dan Stein charged:
“Rather than end dangerous politically-driven policies that have put a total of 85,000 deportable criminal aliens back onto the streets in the last three years, ICE tried to hide them by providing grossly inaccurate information to Congress and the American people.”
ICE uses a “priorities” list to determine which aliens are deemed deportable and according to the agency, these 13,000 criminally convicted aliens “were not considered sufficiently dangerous to be deported.” But the crimes they committed certainly were, including homicide, kidnapping, assault, sexual assault, and drunk driving. And in FY 2015, ICE released another 20,000 deportable criminals to continue their assaults on the American public.
Forget sanctuary cities — America is now a sanctuary country, thanks to the Obama administration.

The “priority” system is what DHS/ICE uses instead of U.S. law.
Yep I live on the border and am directly affected by this.
I would read case notes all the time from frustrated ICE officers to the effect of: “This illegal is deportable, but under current rules, he is not a priority for action. We will interview him and take no further action”.
This is treason and an attack on the safety of United States citizens by a degenerate communist crypto/muslim foreigner intent on our destruction.
All who have participated in this conspiracy must be brought to account.

I interpret Trump’s thinking here is that if they cannot get a job or public benefits, they will likely to be leaving en mass on their own. 60% would be a fine target here. My take on compassion: If they are going to leave anyways and have never been convicted with a crime, they can register for some sort of fast track return work visa, but never be allowed US citizenship. Since only citizens can get welfare or SSI, many think this will create a sub-class. I say tough. Build the wall. Hire them to help ;) They can work and pay taxes or they can leave our country. Now you’ve completely turned off the illegal migration magnet and securing future generations.
And let’s not forget about the women who come here from China and Mexico 9 months pregnant just to give birth in US hospitals so they automatically get citizenship..have to stop that from happening too..no more freebies and they wont come here

With little deporting to do, DHS/ICE Deportation Officers would staff control rooms, where they would occasionally call up county jails to ask about alien prisoners, and perhaps send the occasional fax with a “detainer” request. Meanwhile they would just kill time.
At the center in which I worked, there was one DO who slept half his shift. Another spent 80 percent of his time watching YouTube videos of video game play. His pay? 150k.
I went into the wrong line of work I guess.

1) n. a popular term for anyone who has committed a crime, whether convicted of the offense or not. More properly it should apply only to those actually convicted of a crime.
You are technically correct but I prefer the broader, popular definition of “criminal” because your definition has an aroma of “undocumented”. Trump isn’t giving an inch, neither should we.
In my opinion any foreign national here in violation of our immigration laws (”illegal”) is a criminal, whether convicted or not.

He devoted part of his 2011 book, Time to Get Tough, to the idea that all illegals with criminal records need to be deported. He (famously) addressed the issue of violent illegals in his announcement speech over a year ago. He’s also been the first to give a voice to the families of those murdered by illegal criminals. The issue has been personalized for him.
I am pretty cynical about politics at this time...I guess I have reduced myself to hoping I will be proven wrong on so many things.
There are a lot of things I am hoping he will prove me wrong on. Sad.
I said on another thread recently, watching this country change must be like a having a person you love suffering Alzheimers.
Just make sure it includes all of these Muslim rapefugees OFail has brought in. They all have to go back.
