Colin Kaepernick sits during national anthem; 49ers defend move

Colin Kaepernick, who has been mired in a quarterback controversy with Blaine Gabbert to see who will lead the 49ers this season, may have sparked a real controversy Friday night.

Kaepernick did not stand for the national anthem before the 49ers preseason game at Levi's Stadium, although the move went unnoticed by most at the time. ProFootballTalk.com reported the story more than an hour after the game, and no reporters asked Kaepernick about it following the 49ers 21-10 loss to the Packers.

But Kaepernick's action prompted the 49ers to issue a statement acknowledging that he sat during the anthem, and defending his right to do so.

“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony," reads the statement. "It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose to participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”

That stance will not sit well with many fans, however, and Kaepernick is sure to hear the boos in opposing stadiums as the media shines the spotlight on his decision. Was Kaepernick, who has been outspoken on his Twitter account about racial issues in the U.S., making a political statement? Expect to hear much more on this story in the coming days.

Could be interesting and divisive if this spreads to locker rooms and high schools across this country

It already has.

One of the hard choices patriots will have to face is continued worship of degenerates who wear their preferred team colors vs. doing something constructive on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

Rather watch college except they are following very closely behind the antics of NFL

Led by ESPN (Disney), pro sports are turning into the latest outpost of cultural Marxism.

Too bad, so sad.

Find something else to do with your time.

Perhaps the goal here is to do away with all national symbols by creating disunity in order to clear the path for unity under a globalist banner

Kaepernick will be a considered a persona non-grata and leper by fans in EVERY city. He's not strong enough emotionally to take the verbal beat downs he's going to receive. There's only so much Stephen A. Smith can do for him.

But what's he care?? He's got his mega-millions no matter what. And now "street-cred."

This is yet another case of a mixed-race (half-black/half-white) person loathing their white parentage; His white adoptive parents are THE ones who nurtured him.

Seems the lighter the "black," the more militant and hateful they are of Whitey.Anyone want to take a shot at analyzing that phenomena?

but this offends the vast majority of NFL fans

Just wait until your "vast majority of NFL fans" wake the f*** up about who and what their heroes are.

Let’s hope there’s something to the karma theory - for both CK and the 49ers organization.

Something about sow to the wind; reap the whirlwind..

Regardless that the pendulum is on the left swing;

We have people dying defending that flag and all for which it stands. Not only standing, but everyone should be singing the National Anthem, not just some bit singer.

That pendulum is starting to swing right in November.

"To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Should make the cops defending him feel good (sarcasm)

A mulatto adopted and raised by white parents and given every opportunity to realize the American dream has no business behaving as such. Now he’s a failing pro quarterback who has lost the starting job and can’t get traded, so he acts up like a BLM punk. If the 49ers had any honor, they’d bring on another backup and cut his sorry @ss.

Oh, you poor oppressed attention ho!

This country oppressed you into being a multi-millionaire! Damn those SOBs! All those white folks sitting in the sands every game want to oppress you by giving you all that outrageous price ticket money.

Say, how much of your millions are you giving away to those poor oppressed part-relatives of yours? You should give it all away and become homeless so you can be oppressed some more.

Glad to say I have not even watched an NFL game for almost 40 years, so don't blame me for oppressing you! I hope hundreds of millions follow my righteous example.

Not being a sportsfan, I never heard of this guy. Had to research to find out that if 0bama had a younger brother who was a pro-athlete, this guy would be it.

I find it interesting that a multi-millionaire ‘black’, in an organization with many other ‘black’ multi-millionaires, who are worshiped by millions of white sportsfans would decry a nation ruled by another ‘black’ as a racist nation which will not let ‘people of color’ succeed.
