The Washington Post is unsurprisingly in love with the new Obama-puffing film about Barack and Michelles first date. Movie critic Ann Hornaday won the prize for the biggest gush, comparing Obama to young Abe Lincoln:
Like the warm summer day it chronicles, Southside With You possesses a mellow, languorous vibe, an infectious easygoing charm that insinuates itself gently, then seductively, as the couple at its center experiences the stirrings of what might be true love.
That the two young people in question are named Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson almost feels like an afterthought in Richard Tannes modest but enormously enjoyable throwback of a movie. Imagine a cross between John Fords Young Mr. Lincoln and Richard Linklaters Before Sunrise, and you get a sense of the tone of a movie that tiptoes to the edge of hagiography but never falls in, at least entirely.
Hornaday's comparing Obama to Lincoln, so maybe she's not the best judge of what's a hagiography. She then quickly said Obama's "pathological haters" won't want to see it, and links to fellow partisan Post hack Petula Dvorak trashing the hatred (obviously racial) of Obama critic

has the movie played yet or are they trying to drum up interest in it so that the ratings arent too embarrassing?
Totally correct. Actually part of the review already sets up those dang racist who deny such an engaging story. Sick? Uh, yeah.
The Left’s great iconoclast in recent decades has been JFK. But, as we can see through the lens of history, JFK was a lot less socialist/liberal in nature than what is needed for today’s new progressive movement. They have to invent a new past, with a new hero. Obama is that hero.
As his presidency fades into the sunset, the Left sees the opportunity to turn the Obama story into some sort of new-fangled “Camelot” myth (just like they did with Kennedy).
In time, he will be considered by all of academia as the greatest president ever. He will become the essence of Big Brother.
america is dead
This whole seven year media/Hollyweird (gag me) love affair with the 0bama’s is down right sickening.
Guess I shouldn’t have left a choice huh? I’ll pick puke for $1,000.00 Alex.
“When I first met the Wookie she only had a tiny baby mustache..”
” Why in the world would anyone want to see a movie about Obama and Michelle’s first date? “
Why would we want to see a movie about ANYONE’S first date?
.
So far on imdb.com there are 1,228 ratings. Averaging a 6.6 out of 10.
Probably ought to be down to 2.3 out of 10.
Saints ain’t hags.
I am excited to see the portrayal of the Revs. Jackson and Wright at their special meeting of the directors of the Down Low Club. Their discussion of Obama’s need to disguise his homosexuality and Michelle’s need for a husband must have been handled with great sensitivity and warmth.

guess you missed the part where Lincoln had to navigate the country through a war that cost over a million human casulaties, and untold wreckage of the existing infrastructure...
Speaking strictly in terms of the romantic element, a first date can reveal all those butterfly-in-the-stomach, head-over-heels, total-captivation-of-the-heart, encountering-one’s-soul-mate moments that we all live for (or live reflecting on). So, yeah, a film about a first date would provide some fairly universal fodder that would appeal to an audience.
Now, a first date involving the Obamas, where we don’t tend to sense any sort of vibe involving the above listed items, or more accurately, sense a more calculating, a bit darker vibe...that is what most will sense misses the mark about the idea of a first date movie involving those two.
Too bad they weren’t willing to be true to life and show their first date as a series of calculations where two “kindred spirits” plot to fundamentally transform America while sitting down to a shared cup of Jamocha Almond Fudge ice cream. That might be interesting.
I foresee the day when the Washington Post simply creates a religion around Obama, and calls him the second coming of Christ.
I’m not even joking.
....any scenes of him crawling around bath houses in C-town?
Lincoln freed the slaves Obama put them back on the plantation.
“I foresee the day when the Washington Post simply creates a religion around Obama...”
Oh come on with the hyperbole already! Religion involves acts of worship...sacrifices...true veneration of the object of worship (sometimes involving the creation of icons)...uh...
