Yes they do bro. My wife and her whole family, and all their many relatives, voted for him too. So far they are happy with him. One has to live in Davao City, like me, to get a feel for what the people think. They have had it up to their necks with crooked politicians, lawyers, media types, and cops, taking their cut of the drug money. Drugs cause for a lot of violence (not all of it) I don't know if he clean up the whole country the way he cleaned up Davao City, but he will try.
I never met Duterte in person, but I know Americans and Europeans who have. They seemed to indicate he is hostile to the UN, the western media, Obama and Kerry. I am a little hostile to all those mentioned too. The Philippine media are about as bad as the US media. You can't trust them.
By the way, the lag lag bala scandals totally disappeared. I wonder why? I did, however, have to be critical. When those two Canadians were killed by Abu Sayaff, he didn't like it, but didn't seem to react much, until a young Filipino kid was also killed a couple days ago. Now, he vows to wipe out Abu Sayaff too. No one else ever seemed to want to do that either. Let's see where it goes from here.
By the way, I was telling my wife about the welfare state that the US has become. She said that was about the dumbest thing she ever heard. In the Philippines, they don't give money to people so they don't have to work.
I did not gravitate towards Duterte immediately .. until I read his WIKI page and saw that "death squad" thing and read his unabashed comments.
Trump had just shown up in American politics at the same time and in almost identical circumstances.
