I must be uneducated but I do not understand why the diplomat corps was being used to deal with Dept of Defense business such as acquiring weapons of war? And I cannot understand how the President would assign the Secy of State to oversee this weapons issue? If there were 30 people working in Libya for the US Gov., were they there to get the weapons into friendly hands? All of it is the opposite of what Reagan was trying to do in arming anti-Communists. Somehow, the idea of the Obama government via inept HRC and her diplomat corps running guns a la Ollie North is utterly fantastic and unbelievable. There had to be more to it.

Stevens was a diplomatic liason and, most likely, a CIA operative. There were 30 plus people involved that we know about.

The US couldn’t use the defense department because what we were doing had no “official” backing by the UN. We were arming (to include chemical weapons) rebel terrorists for the sole purpose of overthrowing a legitimate government.

Syria, as well as Libya, Egypt and Iran, have historically been Soviet/Russian client states. Russia went to the UN numerous times to get us to stop. Russia was invited into Syria on behalf of the legitimate government. They have also been invited into Iran and Yemen. Additionally, they have requested the use of Incirlik AB Turkey. Saudi Arabia and other “friendly” gulf nations will be surrounded. Russia will soon have control of most of the crude oil and natural gas being shipped out of the region.
