Communities in nine U.S. states that have been hard-hit by coal layoffs are being promised more than 3,000 jobs in several industries through a multimillion-dollar federal grant.
Officials for the Appalachian Regional Commission and other agencies announced the 29 projects totaling nearly $39 million Wednesday at a news conference in Huntington, West Virginia.
The investments are expected to create or retain more than 3,400 jobs in agriculture, health care, manufacturing, technology and other industries.
The projects are intended to help communities in Texas and in eight Appalachian states: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Cole endorsed Trump back in May so he may see a shout-out or two from DJT....it may help. Also led the Senate in over-riding Tomblin’s vetoes on right-to-work and Constitutional carry.
Wow that’s almost 400 jobs per state!
Sure to turn the economy around ...
let me tell you, there are only so many jobs out there...most are service related...
they are a pittance to what a full time coal miner would make, and they deserve that for the dangerous job they do...
we're replacing good old "man" jobs with desk jobs, retail jobs, and the like...
Will probably be ditch-inspector jobs, or farm pond-auditor jobs.
Did they increase the Chocolate Ration too?
Yes, from 30 grams to 25.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall of any UMW meeting hall when the union thugs tell the rank and file to vote for Her Thighness because their jobs depend on it. OH, WAIT!! What jobs?
Let’s do some cipherin’. $39,000,000 divided by 3400 jobs (in agriculture) is just a little over a grand a job.

So, they’re spending that money to retain jobs. Obviously a payoff to Clinton supporters to dull the loss of high-paying coal jobs. That $39 million probably doesn’t even come close to the total monthly wages of the former coal miners.
This will just go to Clinton supporters, and not do anything about unemployment in the coal seam.
Sorry for the bad math. It’s about 10 grand.
It’s just a redux of Obama’s “create or save jobs” lie from back in the beginning of his first term.
Here is how that “jobs” program works: they hire a few thousand temp employee people to take grant applications and, after all is said and done, only three coal miners end up with job. Meanwhile the organizations/NGOs that helped with the placement l for the jobs walk away with 98% of the money
Pathetic. Taxpayers continue to be raped.
This is how the Democrats operate. They enact policies that drive companies out of business. Then, they buy votes by opening up the government trough that tells the desperate citizens they will be saved as long as they vote Democrat. Smart tactics, right? FUDems!
there ya go West Virginia, keep supporting Manchin and stand in line for your welfare checks and food stamps.
Hey big Coal, buh bye.
Stocking shelves at the Dollar Store doesn’t take much training.
Smart politics on the part of the Dems.
