Black Voters Question Trump Outreach Delivered to White Audiences

Black Republicans generally praise Donald Trump's newfound outreach for African-American votes that typically go to a Democratic presidential nominee.

But they say Trump shouldn't just make the appeal at his rallies, which have nearly all-white audiences and often are held in majority white communities. Instead, they say Trump must go to the inner cities he's started mentioning in his campaign speeches.

Meanwhile, many other black voters say the New York billionaire's outreach is misguided or even offensive, and they say they still plan to back Democrat Hillary Clinton.

They believe obama... and have believed the dems for years.

Not much can do for folks who won’t get out of their own miserable conditions when someone finally offers them a way out. Stay with the old habit.. stay in the old conditions.

Sometimes people held in subjugation are comfortable with it and are afraid of change.

I remember Reagan made a campaign stop in Newark or some other all black city in 1980. Reagan said something like “I cannot help you if I don’t win the election.” Reagan won and he did more to help black people than any Democrat did. Reagan’s economic reforms created jobs for millions of black people.

It would not hurt Trump to make one or two appearances in black neighborhoods of swing states.

It seems likely that this is more about planting seeds for future votes, as well as affirming a fundamental American principle, fairness, which has taken a heck of a beating in recent years. As messages go, this resonates with all Americans and signals a change in policy direction.

Do not listen to that arguement. Typical black community is historically a rabid democrat community. Guide to social media & web site speeches. Too dangerous to go areas where BLM & Black Panthers will be violent.

Great!

I was commenting on the assertion of the article that he was addressing a white audience.

Trump tried to go to Chicago during the primary season.... that was the time when protestors showed up, violence ensued, and for the first time Trump had to postpone his appearance.

I remember Newt Gingrich remarked in the wake of that event— the venue Trump chose was one where many black voters lived... the protestors who showed up basically intimidated any inner city residents who might have been open to hearing this very different type of Republican.....

Of course, lots of white voters from the ‘burbs were there, too... but Newt’s point was that Trump was holding a rally where NO Republican presidential candidate in recent memory had gone; a predominantly black neighborhood/venue location.

He had a good point, and it was a shame the thugs brought things to such a boiling point that he could not safely speak.

if we want to be COMPLETELY racist about it, Trump should give the same speech again but in front of a ‘black’ racial audience

having said that, what he said was CORRECT
and
I sense that many “black” Americans will listen to it and take it favorably, will consider voting for Mr. Trump.... since WHAT he said was so accurate ....

HE HAS TO REPEAT and CARRY THIS MESSAGE to more “black” Americans, he has to use the media that will reach “black” Americans (since much of our media has been racially divided up)..... but he should keep the message exactly as it is, and not change it ...its Spot On Right!

Yes, black precincts typically exceed 100% of the registered voters. 110% to 115% in parts Philadelphia.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper is discussing a Justice Department case from the 70’s which alleged discriminatory rental policies at Trump buildings when Donald Trump was 27 and headed up the company in question. It was settled, but perception is fact in politics, unlike the courtroom. Particularly as we are coming off of the Justice Department failing to convict bankers from the financial crisis, settling instead. These two things are going to be conflated in people’s minds.

Meanwhile, many other black voters say the New York billionaire's outreach is misguided or even offensive, and they say they still plan to back Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Declaring that you still plan to back Hillary Clinton simply means that you are a low information voter, unwilling to consider voting for anyone else.

But what is there to gain voting the same way with the same lack of results? Only today, black families are much worse off than they were eight years ago.

It might feel more comfortable plodding along on empty, but you do not have to be a low information voter any more. You have a real choice.
