Cost for these are about $5 to $10 each. GOUGING GALORE.

That sounds about right. In 2001 we needed an EpiPen in case we needed one during a one-week back packing trek in the wilderness; cost about $5.

Was shocked when I bought one a few years ago (bee keeping) because the price had spiked to $80! What is going on?

A family member says she paid $748 out of pocket for a package of pens yesterday.

Marketing....another brand of the same thing costs $72.50 each. Stop buying their brand...problem solved.

Canada

I've seen blog posts that you don't need a scrip and are $100.

NBC Nightly News reported this story but neglected to identify Manchin as a Democrat.
Bias ?

I have a dozen of them. Unless the liquid inside is discolored they’re perfectly safe to use.

Believe it was on Hannity’s radio program today that I heard she was given a multimillion dollar annual salary increase.

Just stop buying Epipen...price will come down...excellent point - if you can find a good alternative - a couple years ago Medicare stopped covering payment for Lidocaine patches which my wife had been using to combat back pain since a fracture several years earlier - Medicare decided if pain wasn't coming from diabetic neuropathy, people didn't need the patches - after an almost fatal run-in with fenatyl, the only alternative Medicare was paying for, we began to purchase the patches by prescription at the drug store - the out of pocket price even with a "discount coupon" was a hundred bucks per month - but within about six months something strange started to happen - Lidocaine began to show up in other products beside the patch form, including Aspercreme - her doc recommended she use that for a much cheaper substitute, and not only is it saving money but wife likes it better since she can apply it a little or a lot at a time depending on her pain, rather than in all or none amount as the patches contain - sometimes these greedy companies end up doing themselves in with their schemes....

There are probably a hundred companies, here and abroad, who would be willing to sell an epinephrine autoinjector for less than $50. (Similar things are available for less than $20 on Alibaba, in quantities.)

The FDA (i.e., the government) is probably the bottleneck.

Last I knew these Epi-Pens were like $125.00 a piece!! What are they now? Seems like a VERY HIGH price for a one-shot deal, but it DOES save your life.

Good story...as I started reading I was thinking “Lidocaine”?!? that’s cheap! Then I read further & saw the form/format Medicare problem. There is also “Oaragel” (20% Benzocaine) and others (up to 10% Lidocaine) that she could put on the pad of a bandage and apply.
Others:

yeah I saw that, but if the same company sells them for $20 in Europe, then anything more is GOUGING and a FELONY in the US.

As usual, if we just ENFORCED CURRENT LAW, all of these problems will go away, just like the CEO’S of these companies.

Pretty sure Europe doesn’t have “1-800-BadDrug” lawyers suing drug companies, so add another $20. per unit for that, and Europe/Canada (socialized medicine) doesn’t pay for a drug’s development/FDA approval/clinical trials...they just negotiate cheaper prices after it goes generic and Americans have paid for the development thru higher prices. Drug companies figure a few dollars profit per unit in Europe is better than nothing, especially if the order is for hundreds of thousands of units for the whole country. Americans are subsidizing those socialized plans thru higher prices here. If we go single payer/socialized here in the USA...new drug development by private companies will grind to a halt.
