The names of closed businesses evoke memories for all of us.

Don't forget Montgomery Wards, Woolworth, Kresge's, W.T. Grant's for big names. Edw. Malley's and G. Fox for those of us from Connecticut.

In Newark, Bamberger’s, Ohrbach’s, Kresge’s, Klein’s, and Hahne’s. In NYC, Bonwit Teller, Ohrbach’s, Altmans, Gimbel’s, Klein’s, and one I can’t think of the name of, right next to Ohrbach’s on 34th Street.

Kresge's

I would go to the Kresge's at Lenox Square (Atlanta Ga... when it was still an open air mall) to get the latest Beatles album the day they came out.

Getting to be fewer of us who remember getting those marvelous records in chronological order and being amazed at how they changed with each one.

Having the whole catalog just thrown out there may be nice, but smelling those new notes fresh out of the oven was something else.

A trip to Hartford and G Fox was a wondrous expedition. 11 floors of delight.

Glad for those memories.

Now, there is nothing to go to Hartford for. Nothing.

Honiss’ gone; chicken man on Front St gone. Brown Thomson. Sage Allen. Mr Peanut walking the street. Good stuff.
