Lots of gentle giants there, like unarmed Mikey.

I live in ST. Louis , near the AB brewery, there are some decent neighborhoods still around. But, the North part of the city is a little Mogadishu. The one nice thing is we can get a CCW quit easy and there have been a few perps die because of that. But mainly, as has been noted in other comments, it is mostly turf battles and drug killings.

With all this news about Chicago’s weekend death toll every week, who knew St. Louis was worse?

It's kind of like the misleading Hillary polls. This rate is per 10,000 population. Since Chicago's population is much larger the total number of murders is much higher but on a per capita basis, St. Louis squeaks past. Not sure if the St. Louis stats include all of St. Louis county where most whites fled to years ago.

How come no shooting reports? Chi-congo is always mentioned.

“and which race commits these lovely crimes? Just one intuitive cracker askin....”

Well, in the case of Stockton, your “intuition” is wrong. There it’s Mexicans! Plus Stockton just went through a municipal bankruptcy without actually fixing their fiscal problems. The Cops and the FF’s got a pass on any haircuts, and they are 80% of the city’s budget, so they will go back into bankruptcy again, soon! Government employee pensions will soon kill off a number of cities in California.

I learned a lot by working for a company with a branch here.

Can’t imagine what it must be like now.

It’s still a small town with a disproportional amount of crime,

St Louis is a physically small city that has lost well more than half of its population and probably 3/4 of its tax base in the last half century.

The 1876 vote to separate from St. Louis County was one of the dumbest ideas ever. The city didn't want to pay for services in outlying areas. Apparently nobody foresaw the later growth of suburbs.

“I took the wrong interstate exit once and landed in downtown East St Louis. “

I was visiting a friend of mine from high school who had moved near there when his dad got transferred to Scott AFB. His dad took us on a tour of East St. Louis after a Cardinals game. He was a bird colonel, and he didn’t stop for one stop sign the entire tour. I think it was some kind of lesson on sloth and responsibility, or something...

Well, to be fair to the civic leaders in 1876, separation probably worked pretty well for them for the next 75 years or so. I think the city reached its peak population in the 1950 census. But in the long long run, it doomed the city. As things got worse, many who could fled to the county leaving the city with thousands of empty buildings.

Hard to believe but Chicago is still about 33% white. We’ll bag about 500 plus this year. Still way ahead in actual numbers of murdered.
