Think black people aren't voting for Trump? Guess again

YOU WOULDN'T think that a black gay man living in heavily Democratic Philadelphia would be a big Donald Trump supporter.

So, imagine my surprise when over lunch recently, Saleem Khalil Vanderpump who belongs to all of those groups, told me he had every intention of voting Republican this fall.

I was, like, whaaat? Vanderpump, co-owner of the Bellargo Boutique in the 500 block of South Street, explained that he is a huge fan of the self-described billionaire.

I mean huge. He admires Trump's success as a businessman and has bought into the Republican candidate's campaign promise to "make America great again."

To him, Trump is the ultimate political outsider - a baller with swag who is married to a gorgeous ex-model and the visionary behind Trump Tower, other New York City skyscrapers and the fabulous Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. Trump's proposed temporary ban on Muslims entering the country; his having referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists; and the candidate's insulting remarks about a Mexican judge haven't swayed Vanderpump one bit.

"I feel like Trump knows how to make money. He knows what it takes to create jobs because he's done it," explained Vanderpump, who also designs the Cherry Pie Swimwear line. "There are so many young men in my neighborhood on my block who can't get a job. They sit on the block all day long. I feel like Donald Trump can get this turned around."

And "I'm not the only one."

ABC (Always bout Clinton) lead last night was rehash of New York Times Black writer’s being “offended” by Trump’s outreach to Black people. I guess his maassa at the Times doesn’t know about this situation in Philly.

Voting rights were opposed by southern democrats and Midwestern republicans but supported by northern democrats and moderate republicans. In that vein Goldwater was the first to adopt a "southern strategy" and consequently won only AZ and a handful of southern states.

Also important was Eisenhower integrating the schools and sending the national guard to Little Rock. The little rock high school today is designated as a historical site and is a popular destination for black tourists.

Outsider Ross Perot did relatively well with blacks.

The last shift was the 2006 midterms when the GOP's campaign cost benefit analysis said that they should spend their money on motivating white voters.

I personally know a good number of Blacks down here in S. MS who didn’t vote Obama last time and who are pro-Trump this time.

Obama may have done more to hurt the Democrat Party than any Republican could ever have. They finally realize that voting Democrat, even when it is a black man in the White House, gets them nowhere. Democrats only care about them on voting day, many now “get it”.

Hillary has to fight this sentiment which, I bet, was not considered. They most likely assumed the black vote as usual, this must be horrifying for them!

Trump is AUTHENTIC. When he asks for their vote people know that he is sincere and not afraid to put it out there. He gave himself an out with the ‘first time’ remark and he knows that it’s a 2 way street.

Seems we are going to see even more aggressive outreaches by the Trump campaign for the black vote. Go DJT.

Gotta get the obligatory Trump-bash into the report, of course. Journalistic integrity.

Eisenhower desegregated schools in 1957; Democratic vote and affiliation went up. Nice thank you from the black community. Again, in 1964 voting rights were guaranteed to blacks. It would never had passed without Senator Everett Dirksen (R-IL). Again thank you from the black community.

My bet is that at least 20% of the Blacks will vote Trump and 35% of the Latino Vote as well. Asians will go 100% Trump. 100% of the Muslim Vote will go to Hillary— all 1% of the Population.

Are we supposed to infer that Trump isn’t a billionaire?
Of course you are. Anyone can have a 757 with her name painted on it . . .

There is graphic form is the definition of insanity, i.e. doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

Only one question, why begin in 1936? That was when FDR started handing out the goodies from the public treasury. Well maybe I just answered my own question.

The irony is that Southern Democrats effectively disenfranchised blacks through “white only” Democrat primaries (almost all of the former Confederate states were dominated by Democrats), as well as literacy tests and poll taxes. By these means, whites dominated black majority counties in areas such as the Mississippi Delta. Southern state legislatures were lily white between the 1890s and the 1960s, and were dominated by Democrats.

These are the things that I do not think are reflected in the polls. I believe the polls are still based on the 2012 model. Trump has changed all that.
