Sorry for the follow-on post, but I realized I hadn't even heard the word "housecoat" in ages.

Another archaic word she used was "step-ins" which was what she called ladies underwear.

For Christmas, the grandsons would all get black socks, and the granddaughters would all get step-ins.

When asked what she wanted for Christmas, the response was, "Nothing, but maybe I could use a new housecoat." I realize now that would have been a very economical and useful gift for her.

In her entire life, I think she left the state of Mississippi twice, both of which were in the company of my Mom and Dad on brief vacations. No, I take that back. She traveled to Houston many times to take my grandfather to MD Anderson when he was dying of cancer. Of course, she never drove a car in her entire life, but she always went with whichever of the children drove him.

Good memories of her. She is enjoying her eternal reward. I am certain of it.
