Official: Pills found at Prince's estate contained fentanyl

MINNEAPOLIS

Some of the pills taken from Prince's estate in Paisley Park after his death were counterfeit drugs that actually contained fentanyl — a synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin, an official close to the investigation said Sunday.

The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said nearly two dozen pills found in one Aleve bottle were falsely labeled as "Watson 385." According to Drugs.com, that stamp is used to identify pills containing a mix of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, but the official said at least one of the pills tested positive for fentanyl.

Autopsy results released in June show Prince died April 21 of an accidental fentanyl overdose. The official who spoke to the AP said records show the 57-year-old Prince had no prescription for any controlled substances in the state of Minnesota in the 12 months before he died.

Authorities are still investigating how Prince obtained the drugs.

Same with Jimi Hendrix who was a druggie musician who passed away nearing 50 years ago...pretty much choked to death on his own vomit..... But Hendrix is copied and revered and I still like some of music.
Especially Winwood and Clapton doing Little Wing.

I agree. Performing at concerts at night takes a toll. Plus, playing the same stupid songs endlessly is brutal. I pity Taylor Swift. She feels forced to sing the same stupid pop songs every time. I am friends with the guys in Social Distortion. They feel pain every time they prepare to play “Story of My Life.” Brutal. Pop songs become stupid and boring after 50 plays.

Fentanyl is typically administered by transdermal patch or IV. It is not available commercially by oral tabs. I don’t what the absorption would be via oral route.
I know a lot of fentanyl deaths have been attributed to aspirating the transdermal patch into a syringe and injecting it IV.

an accidental fentanyl overdose

If you ingest unknown chemicals and you die, it's not an accident.

Yeah, good parallel. The art endures.

Or murder.

Since they found pills that were doctored to look like a fairly mild pain drug that were actually a deadly amount of another drug I would agree that murder is a possibility.

If he was taking it knowingly there would be no reason for the fake label.

"If you try enough drugs, eventually you will find one that will be your undoing."

Words of wisdom I heard from a San Francisco pharmacologist.

Prince knew the risks, but that wasn't good enough. Another one down the drug drain. It's so damn sad.

His son only lived a few weeks because he was deformed by the drugs he and his wife took.He once did an interview showing the baby crib never to mention the child had died.

No no no, the baby had a rare genetic defect that lead to his little skull not being able to grow. He lived for about a week or so I believe. It was extremely difficult for Prince and his wife to deal with, and they were stuck doing this interview that had been arranged and publicized before the birth, before they were even able to come to grip with what had happened.

Given that they found counterfeit drugs in his possession, he may not have known that he was taking fentanyl. That's a shame.

How do people make counterfeit drugs that look like the real thing? Here is a link for a punch that can be used to make pills that look like Watson 853 hydrocodone (vicodin):

Watson 853 punch

There is no legitimate use for this punch. Its only purpose is to manufacture counterfeit pills and the user can put just about any kind of substance in those pills.

It's outrageous that Ebay is permitted to advertise them and it is outrageous that anyone can sell them.

So they made pretend the baby was alive and showed the baby’s room for all to see with Barbara Walters.

I think Social D’s best song is ‘1945’, but that’s just me.

Thanks for the notice. First time I heard it. Very cool. 1945. Familiar guitar. Ness was cool in grade school and would hang out in his garage, play guitar and show no interest in baseball. I wish him the best.

“A classic track from this early Orange County outfit, taken from their 2nd 7” released on 13th Floor Records in 1981.”

It’s an old song, but I am old.
