Hell on Wheels is a series on AMC about building the transcontinental railroad set in the late 1860’s. The rapper Common plays a freed slave who works on the railroad named Elam Ferguson.

Can’t take them back to slavery as they would be unprofitable property but not good for post slavery either as so many of them are too lazy and criminal. Immediately post slavery, blacks were mostly law abiding.
