It is unconstitutional for defendants to be held in jail simply because they can't afford to post bail, the Justice Department asserted this week.
This marks the first time that the federal government has sided with this position before an appeals court, according to NBC News.
In a friend of the court briefing, the DOJ said: "Bail practices that incarcerate indigent individuals before trial solely because of their inability to pay for their release violate the Fourteenth Amendment."
The Fourteenth Amendment guarantees that no citizen can be denied "life, liberty or property, without due process of law."

This piece of human excrement and his DOJ gestapo have reached far into the prison systems and detention centers inthe states and cities across this country with the money to force them to create a hoilday inn for these savages. If times get tough they can always count on the inmate population they treated better than the vets and American citizens
Why don’t we start a movement to abolish the criminal justice system? After all it does nothing useful. Maybe if the lawyers figure out that their jobs are obsolete in liberal America they will change their tune.
That is exactly what this racist DOJ wants since a good percentage of those poor defendants are black.
So I suppose that the DOJ is about to reverse its views of "civil forfeiture?" Yeah, I'll be waiting over there, not holding my breath!
