Syrian regime jets hit Kurdish positions, even after US warning

Syrian regime jets pounded US-backed Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria for a second day, even after the US-led coalition scrambled jets to protect its military advisers working on the ground.

In another escalation of Syria's bloody conflict, warplanes from President Bashar al-Assad's regime were bombarding the city of Hasakeh -- targeting Kurdish forces that for months have worked closely with coalition military advisers helping local fighters combat the Islamic State group.

On Thursday, the United States sent fighter jets to head off air strikes conducted by regime planes and to protect coalition advisers, but the Syrian planes had left by the time they arrived.

It was apparently the first time the coalition had scrambled jets in response to a regime action, and possibly the closest call yet in terms of Syrian forces coming close to killing American or coalition advisers.

"This was done as a measure to protect coalition forces," Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said.

"We will ensure their safety and the Syrian regime would be well-advised not to do things that place them at risk... We view instances that place the coalition at risk with the utmost seriousness and we do have the inherent right of self-defense."

But the Pentagon warning appeared to fall on deaf ears.

Syrian or Ruskie? The Alwhites and the Kurds would seem to have common enemies in the SHIA and Sunni Islamists.

This is really bad news.

The Russians are seriously supporting Turkey now.

If only the Archduke had not gone on that coach ride through Sarajevo...

If only those “coalition” planes had not fired on those “Syrian” planes...

The article is not very accurate.

The Kurds attacked a Christian enclave that is local to the Syrian government; this is not quite the same as ISIS.

Involvement of US aircraft -- incidentally, totally illegal -- has the risks of a confrontation with either Syrian air force or the Russian which will protect the Syrians.

An accurate description of the situation is here:

Congratulations, Obama, we are now much closer to WWIII.

Syrian jets had the nerve to bomb jihadi rebels inside their own country? And we mix in some US troops with the rebels to act as human shields?
And we have zero legal basis to be in Syria and we are pursing our goal of overthrowing the legitimate Syrian government?

That’s quite a pickle.

Just because the WH tells us that our men are working with the Kurds doesn’t mean it’s true. Based on their history of lying, I would say that our men are being forced to support the wrong side. Just like they have been doing for the past 5 years.

Get our people out of there!

We are there ILLEGALLY!

Obastard is in there to supply and protect the bad guys!

Oops! looks like another air drop of weapons meant for the resistance got picked up by ISIS.. how unfortunate...

What sort of moron would still believe Obama is trying to strike ISIS!?

Obama always supports the worst side... In Syria the Assad regime is the least bad actor..so naturally Obama supports ISIS, Al Quida et al. grrrrr

Obama still has his panties in a wad because Russia stepped in and made it impossible for him to install the Muslim Brotherhood in Damascus...seriously :-/

If our fighter jets start firing on Syrian/Russian jets then expect a few S-400’s up our tailpipes. Our jets are there uninvited to begin with.

Zero has empowered Iran in the ME... I think it was on purpose.

Beam me up.

why are kurds attacking Christians. I thought they were the “moderate” muslims.

They have fought so heroically up to now, that would break my heart.

What’s the deal somebody??

Are these good people or bad people as a group?

Yup, if it’s true Kurds are attacking Christians then that’s a sorry turn of events.

IMO, anyone attacking Christians should be exterminated and anyone protecting them should be encouraged.

BTW: Assad has always protected them... so naturally Obama wants him out and the Muslim Brotherhood in...

What an embarrassing mess we have made.

There are no good guys there really.

Yes, Kurds are very moderate. THey are also Muslims. Read about the Armenian genocide and see who did most of the heavy work.

As for attacking the enclave -- likely an order from Washington (See the MoonOfAlabama article). At the end this will not end well for the Kurds.

The Obama regime says the Kurdish forces that for months have worked closely with coalition military advisers helping "local fighters" combat the Islamic State group, were targeted.

Are the "local fighters" some of those "moderate" Syrian "Rebels", and did the "military advisers" tell the Kurds that, or did they sucker them into helping Syrian insurrectionists? The US has screwed the Kurds before, are they doing it again?

Would the Obama Regime lie? Would the Western MSM spread that lie?

Your last sentence sums it all up.

I have heard Assad let the Christians do their thing.

He’s not a good man but it was smart business.

ISIS would have been MUCH WORSE than assad if they had won.

Trump will not fight to oust assad. Good. But he should make it clear that if one dime of terrorist funding is traced back to them, he’s coming and hell’s coming with him.

I was glad Putin did the things he did but i NEVER saw him or more than what he is. An assassin.

The kurds killed the armenians? sorry, my history in that region (and most of the world) sucks.

They are ####ed. No one will help them after this mess ends.

Syria and Turkey will clock them and we will #### them once more. Though i dont know if i want to go to war for the kurds.

Putin is often on the right side of things but I still don’t trust him much.

Sadly, I do trust him more than I trust our current president :-(

The bottom line: Kurds, unfortunately, are followers of Mohammad. That should tell you plenty if you know much about Islam. If not, I recommend the following 42 minute history lesson:
