Term limits are a bad idea. It will limit people’s representation even more.
Government will not be term-limited, the executive branch won’t be limited, government bureaucracies and the lifers and ideologues within them will not be limited.
Congress already has less power than before. Term limits will just make them even more impotent relative to massive nanny state.
People have no effective representation now. This is not going to get any better.
Term limits reduce the amount that the politicians can steal during their time in office.
You bring up a valid point about the power of the permanent Government bureaucracy. The "Deep State" people are the ones that actually elect the politicians. Government employees should be term-limited as well as reduced in numbers.
I agree and the time they r limited to will be even more devoted to exploiting their position. Voters need to do a better job of choosing people of character and integrity. Doubt that will happen but you can’t make enough laws to corral a Bill or Hillary for instance. You have to avoid them from the get go.
Also, it only increases pressures toward corruption -— people who know they cannot continue in the Congress are that much more likely to look for how to maximize their future opportunities -— which can mean pleasing “special interests” which could be sources of future employment and/or consulting gigs.
You hope that elected officials could be immune to such considerations, but ofc some numbers of them will be swayed.

Which congressional district do you represent?...: )

Was the 22nd amendment a bad idea?
(two term limit for the president)

Term limits are a bad idea whose time has come.
In the days of our Founding Fathers, political offices like President, VP, and Senators were side jobs where people represent their constituents for a period of time before coming back home to do their real jobs.
Now, most people in elected office view their elected offices as their primary jobs and sources of income and will say and do anything to keep their power no matter what their constituents think.
The only aspect of power that increases with tenure in Congress is the corruption. Sure, it’s powerful, but that kind of power doesn’t serve the people.
It serves the members of Congress. Let’s try to get people to understand this.
They have the same power they have always had, they just choose to use it selectively mostly for things that have nothing to do with helping the people or the Constitution.
I predict if Trump is elected they will suddenly discover they have power after all.
Back in Andrew Jackson's time, there was no "civil service" job protection. The incoming President had the power to fire all of them, and put in his own people.
Perhaps we should reduce the level at which government employees get civil service job protections.
