The manoeuvres are part of what the Russian strongman sees as the fortification of a new front line with NATO By COREY CHARLTON

40,000 Russian troops are massing on the country’s border with Ukraine – prompting fears of a new military invasion.

The Pentagon has identified eight staging areas dotted along the border, suggesting Russian strongman Vladimir Putin is preparing for new incursions.

Fears are growing that Russia is planning new excursions into neighbouring Ukraine

Among the units deployed to the area are armoured vehicles, tanks and fighter jets.

Navy Captain Danny Hernandez told the Washington Free Beacon that the exercises were being closely monitored.

He said: “We are extremely concerned about the increasing tensions near the administrative boundary between Crimea and the rest of Ukraine.

“We urge both sides to avoid provocative steps or rhetoric that could escalate the situation.”

Officials told the publication similar movements were seen before Vladimir Putin carried out his deceptive annexation of the Crimea.

Such manoeuvres have reduced the “warning time” available to the US if he decides to launch another attack.

Yeah, it’s great argument when it’s true.

I bet that Ukraine regrets giving up their nukes in the 1990’s. US doesn’t have the balls to move nukes into Ukraine.

"Why not?"

Because it would result in the end of civilization and at least 1 billion humans.

Ok. And who would be the aggressors of an annexation? The US? Ukraine?

I'll ask again. Why would Russia need to annex anything?

As one who signed for and was responsible for nukes in the military, their presence in the theater made the Ruskies think twice about their next step.

Oh, without doubt Russia would be the aggressor in that scenario.

But not against ANY US interest.

Absolutely. The Pershing II's won the cold war, in spite of the MX and Trident.

But we didn't put them on Russia's doorstep in their historical sphere of influence.

Remember what happened when Russia put IRBM nukes in Cuba?

That's the way they see Ukraine...if not like Texas.

I submit that the liberty of a people to choose their own legitimate self governance and nationhood anywhere on the planet is a US interest. Be it Ukraine or Taiwan.

We either stand for Freedom or we don't. Russia being "allowed" to annex a neighbor will satisfy an urge to control? It will stop there? I hardly think so. Better it never starts without pushback in the first place IMO.

Cuba was communist and hostile to the US. Ukraine is not communist not belligerent to Russia. Apples and oranges.

Does that include Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan?

Are you saying we should commit us forces to prevent Russia from crossing tanks into Ukraine?

Will you go, or send your son for that folly? Would you risk 100 US cities for that interest?

While I agree that the US should not get involved in the Ukraine, the west did guarantee Ukraine independence when the Ukraine surrendered the nuclear weapons the old USSR has positioned in the Ukraine. I also agree that the Crimea belongs to Russia and has been Russian for hundreds of years.

"Ukraine is not communist not belligerent to Russia. "

They are absolutely hostile to Russian interests.

Oh, and communism has been defeated, completely.

It's last vestiges reside in Europe and USA. And North Korea. And a few other insignificant states.

I wrote that blank check to the US already and earned my combat ribbon. But to help stop another evil empire from forming, yeah I’d do it again.

NATO is just another fig leaf who promised support to Ukraine if they gave up their nukes. Trump was right to question the viability of NATO.

"the west did guarantee Ukraine independence when the Ukraine surrendered the nuclear weapons"

A Bill Clinton signature, that the US Senate refused to even consider, is not a guarantee from the West.

Ok. Let’s pray Putin keeps his tanks and planes out of Ukraine tonight, then neither of us will have to make that decision tomorrow. Nite.

What about the Baltic states? What about Poland? Do they belong to Putin too? I don’t see how stating opposition to Russian imperialism equates to wanting a nuclear war, but you seem to.
