For what it’s worth, the statute is a standard depiction of Shiva, the Hindu god of creation and destruction, performing the “Cosmic Dance.” The dance, depending on how vigorously Shiva performs it, is either one of creation or destruction.

She is worshipped because she brings Moksha; eternal oblivion.
