American Apparel is said to be considering moving manufacturing out of California

Struggling retailer American Apparel is eyeing a move out of its downtown Los Angeles manufacturing facility for a lower-wage part of the country, according to two sources familiar with the company.

The Los Angeles clothing maker, which emerged from bankruptcy in February, is contemplating a move to a state such as Tennessee, North Carolina or South Carolina, where the minimum wage is $7.25, said one source, who requested anonymity due to pending litigation. That would be a significant savings once California’s minimum wage climbs to $15 an hour in 2020.

In a statement, American Apparel said it “does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

The lease on its current downtown Los Angeles headquarters, which is also its largest factory, runs out in 2019. The New York Post first reported the news. Another source, who requested anonymity to avoid losing work, said the company plans to keep its headquarters, including its design team, based in L.A.

Trump said China has done the greatest theft in history against the USA. Google it.

Only Trump knows how to stop China and bring manufacturing back to the USA.

China makes most things and soon will make everything and take over the world.

The only thing good about that is that China is not Islam.

Yeah and regulations like the minimum wage, highest corporate tax in the world in the USA also drive factories to china. Trump will stop all of this

Stay in the US. Tenn or one of the Carolinas. California, elitist socialist paradise. I live here. Don’t blame them.

It’s ok to shop around for the cheapest labor just keep it inside the USA.

Not surprising. Read a GAO report on competition of DoD production programs. Pretty much concluded that no one knew whether competition saved money or not. The interesting thing was one could predict the winner of the competition by comparing labor rates in the projected locations of the production facility.

I'd say that the US government's tax and regulatory policies have done the greatest theft against the US in history.

The dirty little secret is that all these Hollywood stars clothing lines are made by sweatshops in poor third-world countries. If we bring back these jobs, they can be relocated in inner-cities, which would give blacks the skills they need plus get them off of welfare and other benefits.

Much of US policy drives jobs overseas - minimum wage, tax policy, insurance, liability law, workers comp, OSHA, EPA - all make it difficult to hire and produce in the USA.

Tennessee is a Right to Work State, and NO State Income Tax. Just sales tax, and we have a surplus of a Billion $$ in the rainy day fund, we have to BALANCE our State Budget, and we are an OPEN CARRY State. Have beautiful Land Between the Lakes if you like hunting and fishing. East TN to Middle TN is recommended. Stay the H away from Memphis/Shelby County they are like Kalifornia.

A long time ago, I used to fly into the Tricities airport and we would walk to the hotel. There were mountains around us, beautiful lush grass and the smell of hay and cows. The next morning, we would have coffee and homemade sausage biscuits served to us by a waitress who called us ‘sugar’, ‘hun’ and ‘sweetheart ‘.

I loved going there!!!!

Oh, if only that were true. Imagine having free food, free housing, free clothing allowance and being able to get up whenever you wanted, and have zero expectations and NO PRIDE. Now, for about $50 more a week; you have to get up early, take a shower, ride a bus to work, actually work, take orders from someone (possibly a white man) and go home and go to bed at a reasonable hour so you can do it again the next day. The only days you get to do what you want are the weekends. How many blacks do you imagine are going to give up the free welfare ride? Not many. Welfare is just too comfortable.

Competition should be among the states, not the US and the world.

That is the system the founders set up. For America to be totally self sufficient and self reliant. A continental power should thus be so.

We still mange to produce some things in the USA. How?

All those things are just a cost of doing business and inflate the retail price. But those issues are no excuse to kill the industrial base to prove a point. Fight all those things but do not offshore. That is the cowardly globalist way out. More tariffs and less income taxes.

Sorry the truth hurts your feelings so deeply.

Have you never been to Detroit and seen the recruiting efforts done to TRY to get more Blacks to work at Ford and Chevy?

Ignorance can be fixed; stupidity is for life.

Hiring incentives included $50 and an alarm clock and a bus pass. Then free breakfast. Then jackets after 1 month.

After 6 months they gave up

Post the story or its a fairly tale. At a minimum an unemployed Freeper needs to know where to go to get a job. Hell I'd like to work for Ford. Where is the listing?
