America is no longer guaranteed military victory. These weapons could change that.

The fight against the Islamic State may get the headlines. But it’s the military threats from Russia and China that most worry top Pentagon officials — and are driving a new arms race to deter these great-power rivals.

This question of how to deal with Russian and Chinese military advances has gotten almost no attention in the 2016 presidential campaign. But it deserves a careful look. The programs begun in the waning days of the Obama administration could potentially change the face of warfare, in the United States’ favor, but they would require political support and new spending by the next president.

A drive to build exotic versions of conventional weapons may sound crazy in a world that already has too much military conflict. But advocates argue that strengthening U.S. conventional forces might be the only way to avoid escalation to nuclear weapons if war with Moscow or Beijing began....

If Russia was such a threat, why does everyone try to pawn off their defense on the US?

Why don't you ask me to explain the folly of man? To put it in historical context, why don't you ask me, why England slept? Why don't you ask me why the United States did not prepare itself for war with Japan? Why did the United States entered the First World War utterly devoid of adequate men and matériel even though the war had been going on since 1914?

The answer to your question is that the folly inherent in man does not justify the folly of those European politicians who preferred to take the money and buy votes with it then spend on defense, especially if they know that their contribution will not tip the balance and they rise or fall, win or lose, on the intervention of America on their behalf.

Last week, I was speaking to a German neighbor who was astonished to learn that his country had failed to spend its 2% in its own defense. The culture in Europe simply is not there and it is dissipating fast in America.

Finally, I invite your attention to post #48 by, daniel1212 which might alter your opinion somewhat.

Our children are being taught indoctrinated to NOT stand up to bullies; but to get an 'authority' figure to handle the problem.

Launch everything willy-nilly; then G-d can sort everything out afterwards...like Michael Keaton said in the first ‘Batman’...”let’s get nuts!”

100 years ago: “Populism, a rallying cry of turn-of-the-century progressivism.”

Today: “Populism, a rallying cry of enemies of Globalism.”
