Where were these ideological purists when the Rinos pushed candidates such as both Bushs’, Dole, McCain and Romney on the Party? You can hardly call any one of them Conservatives. Could it be that the Conservative elite feel extremely threatened by a populist nationalist like Trump? Where would their influence go in a Trump victory? They fear Trump and his supporters who threaten the status quo in Washington.

Vote for Trump and pray for the best. The last non-politician (who also upset the Republican Party applecart) was Dwight Eisenhower, and the last one with no Washington experience was Reagan. We should have learned from that to avoid anyone exposed to Potomac Swamp Fever.

Now the perverts will be able to corner their victims in a private room without fear of interruption.

Since the mid-1990s, low wage, mass immigration, cheap import interests and other money sources have been not just generous as political donors but ever more deeply embedded and influential in conservative circles and within the GOP coalition. With the 2016 election campaign in its concluding phase, not only is cash from those and other sources mobilized against Trump, but conservative publishers realize that this is the time to generate anti-Trump stories and sell as much ad space as they can -- and even to sell out, if the price is good enough.

From my dealings with journalists over the years, they tend to be touchy about appearances but astonishingly naive that they or their publisher have sold out even after they have manifestly sold out. I hate to see that as to NR -- I am and will remain a lifelong subscriber -- but it is hard to argue otherwise.

It bears mention that even though it seems painfully obvious that NR has sold out, their primary fault is intellectual. They have let their essential role as the keeper of the conservative flame in dark times become the basis for declaring that Trump as the GOP nominee is unworthy of support because he has failed their conservative purity test.

Yet Trump is arguably more conservative and more successful in the real world tasks of building and running things than John McCain or Mitt Romney, two questionable GOP nominees whom NR doggedly supported. Trump is also more able and willing to speak in the plain terms and direct manner that connect with ordinary Americans -- which is reminiscent of Ronald Reagan.

Indeed, unlike Obama and Bush, Trump has a bottom line realism and lacks personal connections to Islam (Obama) or to Saudi oil interests (the Bushes, all of them). Trump seems far more likely to address the role of our supposed Muslim allies in supporting Islamist terrorism and using mass immigration to the US and Europe as weapon. Doing so would help to remedy the central defect in our national security strategy against terrorism.

I trust that NR's fit of Never Trump madness will pass and that, in post-election sobriety, they will see more clearly. And if Trump is victorious and pushes a conservative agenda, they and other Never Trumpers will be forced to recognize that combative Trump will have won because he expanded the conservative and GOP base. Always a smart crowd but not always wise, NR and its stable of thinkers and pundits will then be forced to eat a big plate of crow.

" What am I to do? What am I do?"

Suck it up, Helen!

The chattering classes said the same thing about Teddy Roosevelt. He ended up on Mount Rushmore.

I have said all along, if the neverTrumpers want to know who to blame for Trump they might want to pause in front of a mirror...

The only good thing about them is that they will become irrelevant to the party base from now on. They have screwed their own pooch.
