Mark Hale, 52, who works the third shift at the Hilton hotel downtown, said he was driving home and stopped by on his own to pick up trash.
“Instead of being part of the problem, I wanted to be part of the solution,” he said. “I figured if I started picking up trash, other people might do the same.”
“Hale, who is black and his lived in the city his whole life, said he attributed the fires to businesses and squad cars to “a lot of idiots who don’t have jobs and don’t want to have jobs.”
Hale said he has four grown children, three of whom are in training or studying to be in law enforcement.
“Point blank, I support the police,” he said, adding that, from what he has heard, the officer who shot the suspect was justified.”

I was just thinking the same thing. I carry a concealable gun and 2 spare magazines—plenty for fending off a robber. But, this civil war stuff requires a much bigger loadout.

The recent Obama-inspired Black Lives Matter movement has created a conflict for me. I’m a typical 60 yr old “white” guy who frankly admits a history of bigotry. After making friends with 3 wonderful African-Americans my perspective started to change. After reading and hearing about the role of slave capital formation, The Tuscegee Institute, the buffalo soldiers , the courage of MLK, the healing hands of Dr. Carson, the business brilliance of Herman Caine. as well as the brilliance of Sowell, Walter Williams, and Clarence Thomas, I really began to respect and embrace the contributions of the African-American race to the American experience. But I have to couple this with the overwhelming prison population,the thuggery on and off the court, the nightly shootings in our inner city and the total breakup of over 50% of black families, as well as the violence, hatred, and racism engendered by the BLM movement. What is the truth here? What is going on to make me reexamine my whole view of this culture?
I mentioned this earlier and it’s worth repeating: the best carry mode for self-defense while driving, IMHO, is either a waist pack with side opening or a shoulder holster. Worst: small of back and inside the waistband, 4 o’clock.
Just think how cheery and wonderful life will be for our children and grandchildren.
