How attacks are forcing Germany to examine civil freedoms
BBC News ^ | 13 August 2016 | Jenny Hill

“Germany remains a safe country with a strong police force, with well-organized security agencies… We are good [at security], but we want to be better.”

Germany’s interior minister, Thomas de Maizière, has recently unveiled a long list of anti-terror measures: thousands of new police officers, billions of euros for the security services, better cyber intelligence and faster deportation of foreign criminals.

This was, of course, in one sense about reassuring the German public. It is not the first time the government has announced anti-terror measures. But it is also the response to what are thought to have been the first terror attacks on German soil inspired by so-called Islamic State (IS). […]

Recent polls suggest around three quarters of Germans are worried by the threat of terror. The co-author of one study, Prof. Manfred Schmidt from Heidelberg University, was quoted as saying: “People used to worry about money, health and the environment. This has been replaced by terrorism and extremism.” …

Is what tyrants do.

Create problems to take away freedoms from people they afflicted the problems upon. And then blames them for not being grateful they are solving their problems.

Actually the first step should be to get rid of treasonous Merkel and her crew that wants to wipe out Germany and its culture, and replace them with AfD.

Merkel and her party are the problem, the muslims are the symptoms.

So the $64K questions is... are the germans prepared to do that? Doesn’t seem like it.

Thus, in the final analysis, perhaps the real problem are the german people themselves... and that French guy was right, “People get the government they deserve”.

All according to plan, and also why our crooked leaders are importing mass murderers.

People used to worry about money, health and the environment. This has been replaced by terrorism and extremism.

A carefully crafted public relations campaign can alleviate this worry. What it can't do is remove the real threat. Germany's leaders have opted for the former. They're idiots.

Ok, so the German people have to spend billions of euros to support the invaders, then spend billions more to protect themselves from the invaders. Interesting plan. Glad I’m not there.

The German birth-rate story is best told this way. Between university studies, private foundation research projects, and the German gov’t statsitics people....they all tell the same story. By 2035, Germany will be between 65-to-68 million people. Today, it has 81-million.

The political folks won’t tell this side of the story but the pension program, the national healthcare program, etc....are all under threat over the next two decades, if immigration isn’t allowed to continue. That’s why they grin at the camera and try to make all this acceptable.

I will add this (living in Germany for a number of years)....that any Muslim who arrives and thinks he can do the six to ten kids routine...he’ll bankrupt himself or have to work two full-time jobs to make this possible. When you find the few German families of six to ten kids....the dad always has a technical field or job that is craftsman-like.

Part of the reason for the low birth rate is that it simply costs too much for a family to have three or more kids. Last year, I read some German professor’s report on 2nd generation immigrants into Germany. The vast majority were all using birth control and trying to limit the family to two kids....because they just didn’t have the income to support a large family.

Maybe there are some idiots out there who arrive and think they can welfare-through their family of eight kids. Germany dumped the enhanced welfare program of the 1980s back around a dozen years ago. If you are on welfare today....you get just enough to sustain yourself. You are in the poverty line and live in a pretty marginal lifestyle. So dad either works two jobs to climb out or the whole family suffers.

Wow. Thanks for all the great info.

Well, not so great for Germany.

THAT is why they are closing their eyes to everything.

I wonder if it is the same reason England’s police or told to close their eyes to molestation and rape.

Not many bright financial futures for most countries today.

China and Japan are at 250 percent debt to GDP. And China is supposed to be the success story!

As far as the markets of course they’ll go up when interest is zero or negative and they’re printing money left and right.

A FULL quarter of the people aren’t worried about terror?

Perhaps it was not permitted to check multiple boxes on the survey. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are unconcerned about terrorism - rather, it may mean merely that they were allowed only one choice, and they chose, e.g., "losing my job," "contracting terminal cancer," or somesuch.

Regards,

Oh I wouldn’t say they are closing their eyes. They are fairly hyped up for the late 2017 national election. They want change. Merkel isn’t running....will retire.

The problem is that only one of the parties from the 2013 national election is somewhat anti-immigrant or marginally anti-asylum (the Bavarian CSU Party). Merkel’s Party (CDU) has taken some positions in the last six months to show lost favor with the original idea of an open door. The other three parties of the Bundestag (national assembly) are pro-asylum, period.

Out in the sixteen German states....a new party of sorts (the AfD) has arrived and is extremely anti-immigration. In state elections as they come....they get between ten and sixteen percent of the vote. In three weeks, they will cross the 20-percent point in a state election. Of course, they are accused of being right-wing or Nazi-like. But anyone who takes the anti-asylum position....gets accused of this by the state-run news media.

The turning point was the New Year’s Eve episode in Koln....roughly 300 German women sexually assaulted and turned in reports. It’s virtually all migrants or immigrants. So far, the court system has delivered two convictions but zero jail time (probation in each case). Cops just stand there...their hands are tied by the system in place. The legal system has failed. So, there’s a state election coming up in the spring of 2017 for Koln. I’ll let you imagination run with how the locals are feeling about the state gov’t there and frustrations.

I’ve sat and read through various newspapers here in Germany throughout the summer. There’s been dozens of groping cases...mostly young teen migrant guys or immigrant guys in their 20’s. Some pools are hiring not only life guards but what you’d refer to as “bouncers” (there just isn’t a better word for the position). They are simply monitoring the junior thugs and correcting behavior or kicking them out of the pool complex. Ten years ago, if you’d said that you’d have bouncers at German pools....everyone would have laughed.

So, there is a fair amount of frustration that the open door idea just wasn’t that smart, but how you close it without looking Nazi-like bothers some people. Politically, you can sense that there is horizon approaching and the intellectual crowd is going to meet up with the anti-intellectual crowd. The idea of center-left and center-right politics surviving all of this? Virtually zero. Go look at Austrian politics....the Presidential election in three weeks...will be about an extreme right-wing Party and a Green Party candidate. The center-left/right crowd are finished off.

Why wouldn’t Germany welcome educated, Western people from, say, Poland or maybe as far away as Greece and Spain? They would have job skills and some might already speak German at some level and almost all could learn it. It does not make sense to import people from a violent, hostile culture, who have few skills and almost all of whom will be a burden on the welfare system and require massive spending on police and security.

They have welcomed Greeks, Spaniards, Dutch, British, Americans, and Poles.

There are 108,000 Americans living in Germany, who are NOT associated with the military presence. These are people working in the IT sector, the entertainment business, own pubs and bars, retired, etc.

Over 300,000 Greeks live presently in Germany. Since their economic woes started up....I’d take a guess that at least a thousand a month (well educated and professional types) are making the move into Germany. In my region, there are dozens of Greek restaurants and it’s very popular with the locals.

There’s a minimum of 600,000 Poles living and working in Germany....with probably another 100,000 who drive over for a week or two of work before returning to Poland (roofers, electricians, etc).

There’s a minimum of 180,000 Bulgarians who live now and work in Germany.

Roughly 100,000 Brits work here....mostly in Frankfurt and Berlin. There’s talk since BREXIT occurred....that 10,000 Brit jobs may move from London into Frankfurt. Some Frankfurt people speculate that 80,000 London jobs will eventually make the move. You could see an entire community in Frankfurt alone of 100,000 Brits in three years if they do carry out the EU exit.

So don’t get the idea that the open door hasn’t been beneficial. If you use the 2014 data (before all the hyped up refugee business), then 12-percent of the nation is non-German. Of that group, 1.5 million were Turk or Kurd. Job-wise and integration-wise....prior to 2014...the system was working. But this was a program devised for a friendly and cheerful incoming crowd...who integrated for the most part...caused little trouble...and had jobs waiting for them. After 2014, the system wasn’t built for what has developed.

Even now....with the fake coup in Turkey and the potential that 500,000 Turks and Kurds may escape into Germany because of the business going on there....it’s not all negative. A lot of the people are simply anti-Erdogan, highly educated (lot of professors and instructors), and businessmen. If this new refugee issue occurs, there might be some positives. You have to remember....a lot of Turks just weren’t hyped up much over Islam, and had become westernized over the past couple of decades.

When you get down to it...out of eighty-one million residents...probably 98 percent are law-abiding people and respectful of society. It’s this two percent crowd that reflect non-German or non-western values.

I am fair sure that the powers that be in Germany are way more concerned about those who’re starting to stand up for themselves against the suicidally stupid polices of their masters, than they are about the imported rapists and murders.

IF Germany increases security, it’ll be to crack down on the “islamophobes”.

On that note, this is well worth reading:

Very interesting essay from a man who moved to Germany from Syria in 1962. Summary: assimilation of these refugees is impossible. The comments at the source, which is The Gates of Vienna blog, are quite interesting. They remind me of FR of old, in their depth.

I would tend to agree....although there are the Christian refugees from Syria and Iraq, who have shown up. Much lesser numbers. On the assimilation scale of one to ten...within six months...I’d give most of them a seven or more for trying awful hard.

Someone (not a liberal but just a smart researcher) ought to sit down and examine various nationalities who’ve moved to a new country, and assign a assimilation index. It probably would tell an enormous story over failed integration and why certain countries are the wrong choice for some people.

I tend to see Germany as the absolute wrong choice for any Muslim...out of 185 countries in the world....it probably would be near the top of places not to attempt a move into. Liberal society, women in power, high atheist rate, sex on display twenty-four hours a day, and very little respect for backward behavior.

Your link was the best summary of the conflict that I’ve seen. The fact that it was written by a Muslim from the true Golden age of Islam (the brief age of secularism) adds a veracity rarely seen today. Great find!

Oh, so you’re there? Are there many brawls between German white men protecting the women and the muzzies?

All heck would break loose in many places in the US.

Where I live, the Italians and Irish would look forward to the brawl :)

But I think Western European men are more refined than us. I’m serious about that point.

Exactly. You have GOPe like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and the WSJs Bret Stephens who advocate a Open Borders/Police State dual policy. Let in everyone who wants to come and when the inevitable Muslims terrorism occurs don’t close the border but create a police state a la NSA snooping.
